{coyotes} Connor scores twice, Jets beat Coyotes to end 4-game skid

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Kyle Connor scored twice in the third period and the Winnipeg Jets broke a four-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday.

Adam Lowry, Evgeny Svechnikov and Blake Wheeler scored for the Jets, who rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the third period.

''Just a lot of resilience,'' Connor said. ''The way it has been going, it could have been easy to start pointing fingers, blaming each other and not come out. We really came together there and had a nice push. It was real impressive.''

Nick Ritchie, Jakob Chychrun and Barrett Hayton scored for the Coyotes, who had won two of three. Ritchie added an assist in his second game with Arizona after being acquired from Toronto nine days ago.

Eric Comrie made 27 saves in his first start since Feb. 17. He's made three starts in Winnipeg's last 26 games, and the Jets have won all three. The Jets' Connor Hellebuyck leads the NHL with 44 games in net.

''With days off in between, sometimes it's hard to get both guys in the net,'' Jets interim coach Dave Lowry said. ''He gave us the game we expected. He gave us a chance to win. He made some critical saves at key times.''

Scott Wedgewood made 33 stops for the Coyotes.

Wheeler made it 3-3 on a 2-on-1 break 3:17 into the third period, and Connor scored just over two minutes later to put Winnipeg ahead.

''I saw a group that stayed with it,'' Lowry said. ''We got pushed and stayed with how we wanted to play. Nice to see Wheels go down and get that goal for us.''

Wedgewood made a glove save on Mark Scheifele's penalty shot at 12:23 of the third, but Arizona couldn't get the tying goal. Connor scored into an empty net with 1:08 left.

Connor has 32 goals, the fourth season in the last five with at least 30.

''I believe he's playing the game the right way,'' Lowry said. ''He creates. He finds open space. He hunts pucks. He's quick. He usually doesn't miss.''

Lowry put the Jets ahead 1-0 at 7:39 of the first period, the first of three goals in a 9:01 span. Chychrun tied it at 10:16 with a slap shot from the top of the left circle, and Svechnikov put the Jets ahead 2-1 43 seconds later when he pushed a backhander past Wedgewood.

Hayton tied it at 2 on a nifty move, picking up the puck at center ice and splitting the defense between the circles before faking left and going right to put a backhand shot into an open side.

Connor hit the crossbar on a wrist shot from the right circle five minutes into the second period.

''We had really good goaltending that kept us in the game, but we didn't play as good defensively,'' Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said.

NOTES

Winnipeg D Nathan Beaulieu had two assists in his third game back after missing 10 games with a lower body injury. ... Connor has a point in 23 of his 29 road games this season. ... Coyotes D Dysin Mayo signed a $2.85 million, three-year contract extension Friday. ... The Jets ended a stretch of 11 straight games against Western Conference foes Sunday. ... {coyotes} Schmaltz scores 2 in Coyotes' 2-1 win over Golden Knights

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Nick Schmaltz scored twice in the third period, Scott Wedgewood stopped 43 shots and the Arizona Coyotes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 Friday night.

Shayne Gostisbehere also scored for the Coyotes, who had lost seven of the previous nine against Vegas.

William Carrier scored and Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves for the Knights, who were playing for the first time in five days.

Schmaltz tipped in Anton Stralman's thigh-high shot from between the circles at 3:16 of the third period to put Arizona up 2-1 and Wedgewood made it stand up for his second victory in his third straight start.

Schmaltz added an empty-netter with 31 seconds remaining.

Wedgewood made sprawling save to rob Nicolas Roy with six minutes remaining, one of his 15 saves in the third period.

Brossoit kept the game scoreless in the second period when he got his right pad on Antoine Roussel's breakaway wrist shot five minutes into the period, both teams' best scoring chance to that point.

Carrier's one-man effort gave the Knights a 1-0 lead at 11:03 of the second. Carrier brought the puck in from the left side and was stuffed by Wedgewood, but he regained control behind the net and moved into the left circle, scoring through traffic after a quick spin.

Gostiisbehere tied it at 1-all with 5:44 left in the second on a slap shot from the left point that got over Brossoit's blocker.

Vegas's Reilly Smith had a short-handed chance late in the second but his hard short went wide.

NOTES: Coyotes F Nick Ritchie, playing his first game since being acquired from Toronto last Saturday, received an interference penalty on his first shift. Vegas did not score on the power play, finishing 0 for 2 on the night. ... Coyotes F Clayton Keller had a four-game goal streak stopped. Only four Arizona players had longer streaks since the franchise relocated in 1996-97. ... Play was stopped at 9:45 of the first period when Brossoit's mask became dislodged and fell into the crease. ... Arizona's last three games have been scoreless in the first period. ... Gostisbehere's goal was his 250th career point.

{coyotes} Arvidsson scores twice in Kings' 3-2 win over Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Viktor Arvidsson scored his second goal of the game with 3:39 remaining to give the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night.

The Kings have won five straight road games and are 7-0-2 in their past nine, with the last two coming in Arizona. Los Angeles beat the Coyotes 5-3 on Saturday in a game rescheduled from Dec. 27 because of COVID-19.

Blake Lizotte also scored for the Kings, and Cal Petersen made 17 saves for his second consecutive win over Arizona.

Clayton Keller and Loui Erikkson scored for the Coyotes. Scott Wedgewood stopped 33 shots in his second straight start.

The Kings have won their last seven in Arizona and are 7-1-2 in their past 10 games, nine away from home.

Keller scored his 21st goal on a 2-on-1 break at 6:25 of the first period, beginning a stretch of four goals - two by each side - in a 6:38 span.

Keller took a cross-ice saucer pass from Nick Schmaltz, who drove in from the right wing and found Keller on the opposite side. Keller has points in his last five games and 10 of the last 11.

Lizotte answered 18 seconds later when he redirected a shot from Mikey Anderson into the left side of the net.

Arvidsson scored the Kings' second goal in 70 seconds for a 2-1 lead, putting a pass from Trevor Moore into the right side of the net after a Coyotes turnover in their end.

Eriksson tied it again 2-all at 13:03 when he batted in a puck at chest level past Petersen after Barrett Hayton sent it in front and it bounced off the skate of a Kings defender.

Anze Kopitar hit the right post on the Kings' power play early in the third period, keeping the score tied.

NOTES: Coyotes forward Nick Ritchie, acquired with a conditional draft choice in a trade with Toronto on Saturday, did not play because his visa paperwork had not arrived, the Coyotes said. ... Coyotes F Andrew Ladd (lower body) is expected to miss four to six weeks after getting hurt Sunday in the first period against Dallas. . Arizona D Vladislav Kolyachonok, recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Monday, got his first NHL assist on Eriksson's goal. . After placing G Carter Hutton on waivers last week, the Coyotes traded him to Toronto for future considerations. . Neither team had played since the Kings' 5-3 victory in Arizona last Saturday.

{coyotes} Coyotes win 3-1, halt Stars' road winning streak at 6

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller each had a goal and an assist and the Arizona Coyotes stopped Dallas' six-game road winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Stars on Sunday.

Lawson Crouse scored his 50th NHL goal and Scott Wedgewood made 32 saves for the Coyotes, including 17 while under almost constant pressure in the third period.

With the game tied at 1, Schmaltz scored on a power play to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead late in the second period. Keller scored into an open net with 34.7 seconds remaining for Arizona, which had lost its last two games.

Roope Hintz scored and Jake Oettinger had 32 saves for the Stars, who had not lost on the road since Jan. 15. Dallas had won four straight and 13 of the last 14 against Arizona.

Wedgewood played his first game since making 38 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory over Colorado on Feb. 1 that stopped the Avalanche's 18-game home winning streak.

Crouse scored the first goal of the game at 10:13 of the second period, flipping a quick wrist shot over Oettinger after Schmaltz took the puck away from a Dallas defender along the left corner boards and sent it out front.

Dallas needed only 57 seconds to tie it, when Hintz was credited with his 22nd goal at 11:10 after Joe Pavelski sent a pass toward the net from the right circle. Hintz tipped the pass and the puck bounced off Arizona defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere's skate and trickled past Wedegwood.

Schmaltz made it 2-1 on the power play goal at 17:05 of the second period, when his wrist shot got through Oettinger's pads after a pass from Keller.

Crouse's goal was the Coyotes' first on the power play since Jan. 29, and it broke an 0-for-16 drought that included two power-play opportunities in the first period.

Dallas peppered Wedgewood with five shots in the first 53 seconds of the third period - including one Wedgewood smothered while prone on his back in the crease - but could not break through.

Oettinger made a quick glove save on Travis Boyd's shot from the crease with four minutes remaining in an uneventful first period, the best scoring chance for either side.

NOTES: F Clayton Keller, who skates on the Coyotes' top line and on the power play, logged 11 minutes, 23 seconds in a busy first period. Keller has 17 goals and 21 assists in his last 34 games. ... The Coyotes placed G Carter Hutton on waivers. Hutton started three of the Coyotes' first six games, but had not played since while dealing with a lower body injury. ... Coyotes broadcaster Matt McConnell worked his 1,700th NHL game Sunday. ... Crouse's goal also was his 100th NHL point.

{coyotes} Maple Leafs place Ryan Dzingel on waivers after trade with Coyotes

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas confirmed on Sunday that newly acquired forward Ryan Dzingel has been placed on waivers.

If Dzingel clears waivers, the Leafs intend to assign him to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. The forward was traded to Toronto along with defenceman Ilya Lyubushkin in a deal for Nick Ritchie and a conditional draft pick.

Defenceman Rasmus Sandin has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies in order for the Leafs to get under the cap. Lyubushkin is expected to join Leafs in Columbus on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old is a seven-season NHL veteran who was first drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round of the 2011 draft. He played three-and-a-half seasons in Ottawa before he was traded to the Blue Jackets.

He has since had stints with the Carolina Hurricanes and he made a return to the Senators before he signed this past summer with Arizona.

In 26 games played this season, Dzingel has seven points and 35 penalty minutes.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Drew Doughty and Adrian Kempe scored two goals apiece and the Los Angeles Kings rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.

Doughty, Kempe and Trevor Moore each scored in a 3:39 span early the third period as the Kings overcame a two-goal deficit for the second time in two nights, following a 4-3 overtime victory at Vegas on Friday. Cal Petersen had 20 saves.

''Every game is a basically a playoff game for us right now,'' Doughty said. ''We always know we have the fight. We always know we don't give up. We play hard right to the end. That's one of the reasons why we're in the spot we are. We have guys that work their bags off.''

The Kings are 6-0-2 in their last eight road games and have won their last six games in Arizona.

''The ability to play four lines, trust everybody, good goaltending,'' Kings coach Todd McLellan said. ''Playing to our identity. And the guys have done a good job of managing themselves away from the rink, making sure they are fresh and able to give what's in the tank.''

Clayton Keller, Lawson Crouse and Anton Stralman scored and Karel Vejmelka stopped 34 shots for the Coyotes, who were playing their first game in eight days.

Arizona held a 3-1 lead until Doughty scored his first goal on a power play with 1:27 left in the second period.

Moore tied it at at 6:24 of the third when he flicked the puck into an open side, and Doughty put the Kings ahead with an unassisted goal 48 seconds later on a wrist shot from the left circle.

Kempe's power play goal midway through the period made it 5-3. The Kings were 2 for 4 on the power play and killed all three of their penalties,

''Penalty kill game up big, did its thing again, and obviously the power play got us the win,'' McLellan said. ''It's been awhile since we said the special teams probably won us a game, and tonight was that night.''

Stralman gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 8:52 of the first period when his centering pass from behind the Kings' net caromed off a Los Angeles player in the crease and got past Petersen.

Kempe tied it with his first goal 12 seconds later on a quick one-timer from the left circle after taking a cross-ice pass from Anze Kopitar.

Crouse gave Arizona a 2-1 lead at 7:41 of the second, on the Coyotes' second shot of the period, finding an open right side after a pass from Alex Galchenyuk.

Keller made it 3-1 five minutes later, when his shot from the right circle hit the cross bar before caroming into the net before Doughty closed it to 3-2 late in the period.

''That put us back on our heels,'' Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. ''I didn't like the way we played in the third. I thought we froze, kind of. We forced things and got out of our structure a little bit.''

NOTES: The Coyotes acquired F Nick Ritchie from Toronto for D Ilya Lyubushkin and F Ryan Dzingel and in a trade that was announced during the second period. The Coyotes also receive a conditional draft pick, a third-round pick in 2022 or a second-round pick in 2025. ''Nick makes us a bigger, stronger tougher team,'' Arizona general manager Bill Armstrong said. ''We've been a club right now that has tried to generate assets. That's been our game plan since I came in.'' ... Galchenyuk had his 200th career assist on Crouse's goal. ... The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 27 but was postponed when the NHL extended its holiday break for COVID-19 testing reasons. The teams meet again in Arizona on Wednesday. ...
