The long drive out to Mesa Gateway was not well rewarded but what was notable was how the land around the airport, especially arable land, was being turned into…warehouses. The usual places of interest (Embraer's hangar, the fire ramp, the midfield area, and the Intel terminal) were devoid of anything. My full log follows.

This was my first visit here in about two years and the biggest change was…more development! There was a new warehouse at the main entrance (whose parking lot greatly facilitated views of the scrapping compound), some residential/retail, and, at the NW corner of the field, massive land clearing for (hopefully not for spotters!) more warehouses? Maybe it was because spring training, with Guardians & Reds facilities more or less at the airport, was in full swing but there were a LOT of police and no patience for my attempts to wipe up A319s (mainly) on the SE side of the airport…I didn't push my luck. In general Goodyear made up for everything the Williams Gateway wasn't, it was good to be back! I should add that there were a surprising number of duplicates to my March 2020 (pre-Covid) visit.

{coyotes} Keller out for season with broken leg, left Coyotes game on stretcher
Clayton Keller is out for the season after he was taken from the Arizona Coyotes game on a stretcher with a broken leg sustained in the third period against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
The forward was injured with 5:15 remaining after falling and hitting the end boards legs first. He was trying to get off a shot while being defended by Nicolas Meloche.
The Coyotes said he had surgery after the game and is expected to make a full recovery, projected to take 4-6 months.
"(I) want to thank my teammates, the fans and medical personnel for the love and support last night!" Keller said in a tweet Thursday. "Unfortunately the season's over for me, but I'm resting comfortably at the hospital in good spirits. I will be back better than ever for (Day One) next season!"
Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said several teammates spoke to Keller before he left for the hospital.
"You could see guys were in shock," Tourigny said. "They were lining up (in the X-ray room) just to touch him, just to tell him that we're here for you.
"I don't have words. We're all in shock. "We're all sad not just with him getting hurt but being in pain like that. ... He's the heart and soul of our team."
The game was delayed eight minutes while Keller received medical attention. He gave a thumbs-up as he was leaving the ice.
"When their best player goes down, that's tough to recover from if you're the team that it happens to," Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. "It was an eerie few minutes, watching them bring the stretcher out. You never want to see that."
Arizona scored twice after the injury for a 5-2 win.
Keller leads the Coyotes with 63 points (28 goals, 35 assists) in 66 games.
"'Kells' is a [heck] of a competitor, he takes a lot of pride in [preparing] daily, and he's the heart and soul of our team," Tourigny said. "It's tough to see him in a situation like that, for sure."

{coyotes} Jenik scores 2, Coyotes beat Sharks 5-2 to end 6-game skid
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Jan Jenik scored twice, including the tiebreaker in a three-goal third period, and the Arizona Coyotes snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night.
Late in the game, Coyotes star Clayton Keller crashed into the boards and was taken off the ice on a stretcher with an apparent leg injury.
Barrett Hayton and Nick Schmaltz scored in the final three minutes for Arizona. Nick Ritchie had a goal in the first period and Karel Vejmelka stopped 40 shots in his sixth consecutive start.
Jenik took a centering pass from Phil Kessel and broke a 2-all tie at 7:11 of the third. It was Kessel's second assist of the night. Jenik has three career goals, all against San Jose.
The game was delayed about 10 minutes with 5:15 remaining after Keller, the Coyotes' leading scorer, crashed into the boards behind the San Jose net. He remained prone on the ice for about five minutes before being wheeled off.
Scott Reedy and Brent Burns scored, and James Reimer made 18 saves for the Sharks, who had won three of four. Reimer won his previous three starts.
The Coyotes had scored nine goals in their previous six games, never more than two in a game.
Reedy opened the scoring on a power play at 12:15 of the first period after Arizona forward Alex Galchenyuk was penalized for closing his hand on the puck late in a Coyotes power play.
Reedy, stationed in the crease, scored on the second deflection of Ryan Merkley's shot from the left point that also got a piece of San Jose forward John Leonard on its way to the net. The goal came with three seconds left on the power play.
Ritchie tied it at 15:48 of the first when he poked a pass from Schmaltz through the crease into the right side.
Jenik scored his first goal of the season at 8:33 of the second, set up when Merkley fell down while stickhandling behind the Sharks' net. Kessel picked up the puck and found Jenik alone in front.
Jenik was recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Monday for the third time this season.
Burns tied it 2-all on a slap shot from the left blueline that got through a crowd in front at 14:07.
Each team had later chances. Tomas Hertl hit the right post at 4:19 of the second, and Merkley cleared a puck that trickled through Reimer's pads just before it crossed the goal line with three minutes left in the period.
Vejmelka stopped Leonard on a breakaway five minutes into the third, and saved four shots during an 11-second flurry moments later before Jenik's goal made it 3-2.
NOTES: Schmaltz has 22 points in March, the most for a Coyotes player in a calendar month since the franchise moved to Arizona before the 1996-97 season. . The Coyotes have won four straight home games against San Jose and are 5-0-1 in their last six at home versus the Sharks. . Kessel had his 100th career multi-assist game. . The Coyotes played without top-six defensemen Jakob Chychrun (lower body) and J.J. Moser (lower body) for the seventh straight game and were without forwards Lawson Crouse (upper body), Christian Fischer (lower body), Antoine Roussel (lower body), Liam O'Brien (upper body) and Andrew Ladd (lower body). Crouse was injured in Monday's loss at Edmonton. . Sharks F Logan Couture returned after missing the Anaheim game Saturday with an upper-body injury. . Sharks D Jonah Gadjovich (undisclosed) did not play and is expected to miss three games. . Vejmelka played his fourth game over six days in four cities and three different time zones.
UP NEXT
Sharks: Play at Colorado on Thursday in the second game of a road back-to-back.
Coyotes: Host the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

{coyotes} Coyotes seek gambling law change for ASU arena
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes want a new state law that legalizes sports betting changed to allow them to keep running their mobile sports gambling operation when they move from Glendale to Arizona State University's hockey arena next season.
But the Arizona Indian Gaming Association and multiple Native American tribes oppose the last-minute measure approved by the Arizona Senate's appropriations committee on Tuesday. They argue that the 2021 law that legalized sports betting was part of a complex deal they negotiated with Gov. Doug Ducey that updated the tribal gaming compact.
The Coyotes say the change is needed because ASU's arena only holds 5,000 people, and the law that allowed professional sports team to run retail sports books and mobile gambling operations requires facilities to seat at least 10,000.
The Coyotes plan to use the university's arena for three years while the teams develops a new $1.7 billion project including restaurants, shops and apartments and a new hockey arena on a 40-acre site in Tempe.
The Coyotes don't plan to open a retail operation at ASU, just keep running their mobile gambling operations, according to the Coyotes' Andrew Diss, who testified for the proposal. He said there is a question as to whether or not a change in the law is needed to continue to operate their online gambling operations but said they've received contradictory answers.
"When you ask 10 different attorneys the same question, you get 10 different answers," Diss said. "That does not give us a sense of comfort that we're going to be able to maintain our online gaming license if we move to a facility with less than 10,000 people. That is what this comes down to."
An attorney who represents the Arizona Indian Gaming Association said a law that was just passed last year should not be changed just because the Coyotes found themselves needing a new arena. He said the updated compact that waived tribes' exclusive right to operate gambling in Arizona was dependent on limiting when, where and how sports teams ran their operations.
"That was a compromise by the tribes and as well as the professional leagues and teams, and to go back and change that understanding, especially less than a year later, for something that is really self-created ... shouldn't land at this body to address," Bradley Bledsoe Downes told the committee.
Downs was referring to the long-running dispute between the Coyotes and the city of Glendale that led the city to refuse to extend its lease on the Gila River Arena.
Republican Rep. Leo Biasiucci, who sponsored the last-minute amendment approved Tuesday, said the Coyotes plan to spend $40 million for improvements to ASU's new multipurpose arena. ASU said when it announced the deal in February the Coyotes would pay nearly $20 millio n upfront for the improvements.
Sen. Sonny Borrelli, a Republican from Lake Havasu City, said the tribes' opposition was nothing more than an unnecessary turf war. He called the opposition "ridiculous" and said ASU would be the big winner.
"To see this, this opposition from the tribe, is really upsetting because this does not negatively affect the tribes one iota. None, zero," Borrelli said. "It's moving from one location to the other, and it's temporary."

{coyotes} Coyotes eliminated, could not overcome slow start, special teams issues
The Arizona Coyotes failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Arizona (20-41-5) was eliminated from contention when it lost 6-1 to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. Prior to qualifying for the first round of the playoffs in 2020, when they lost to the Colorado Avalanche in five games, the Coyotes did not make the playoffs for seven straight seasons.
Here is a look at what happened in the 2021-22 season for the Coyotes and why things could be better next season:
The Skinny
Potential unrestricted free agents: Jay Beagle, F; Phil Kessel, F; Loui Eriksson, F; Alex Galchenyuk, F; Dmitrij Jaskin, F; Antoine Roussel, F; Anton Stralman, D.
Potential restricted free agents: Lawson Crouse, F; Christian Fischer, F; Barrett Hayton, F; Kyle Capobianco, D; Cam Dineen, D; Josef Korenar, G.
Potential 2022 Draft picks: 10
What went wrong
Bad start: The Coyotes went 0-10-1 in their first 11 games before getting their first win of the season against the Seattle Kraken (5-4) on Nov. 6. They didn't have their first winning streak until winning two in a row, against the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings, on Nov. 20 and 21.
Giving up too much: The Coyotes have allowed 236 goals in 66 games, an average of 3.58 goals per game this season, which has them 29th in the NHL. They have struggled the most in second periods, allowing 86 goals (last).
Special teams issues: Neither the penalty kill nor the power play was the source of much success for the Coyotes this season. They are 31st on the power play (13.8 percent) and 29th on the penalty kill (73.5 percent).
Reasons for optimism
Rebounding Clayton Keller: The forward leads the Coyotes with 63 points (28 goals, 35 assists). The goals are an NHL career high and Keller is two points away from the NHL career-high 65 points (23 goals, 42 assists) he scored in 2017-18. It's a bounce-back season for the 23-year-old, who scored 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) in 56 games last season. Keller is wrapping up the second season of an eight-year contract he signed with Arizona on Sept. 5, 2019. If he can produce like this consistently, it'll be a boon for the Coyotes moving forward.
Nick Schmaltz: The forward is having one of the best seasons of his NHL career. Despite being out more than a month because of a lower-body injury, Schmaltz is second on the Coyotes with 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists) in 47 games. He's six points away from his NHL career-high of 52 (21 goals, 31 assists) he scored in 78 games for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017-18.
Draft picks: The Coyotes have 10 picks in the 2022 NHL Draft, including three in the first round (two conditional) and four in the second round. It's an opportunity to help while they continue to rebuild.

{coyotes} McLeod scores 2, Oilers top Arizona for 7 straight home wins
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Ryan McLeod had two goals and an assist and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-1 on Monday night.
Connor McDavid, Warren Foegele, Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl also scored for the Oilers, who have won seven straight home games. Mikko Koskinen finished with 31 saves.
Clayton Keller scored for the Coyotes, who lost their sixth straight and were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a record of 20-41-5. Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves. Josef Korenar came out to start the third in the Arizona net and finished with six saves.
Edmonton scored on its first shot of the game four minutes into the first period. Jesse Puljujarvi found McDavid alone in front, and McDavid was able to wait for Vejmelka to go down before lifting a backhand into the net for his 36th of the season.
The Oilers made it 2-0 midway through the opening period when McLeod banked a shot from behind the net off of Vejmelka and in.
Arizona countered on the power play with four minutes left in the first. Keller's pass attempt caromed off Hyman and past Koskinen.
Edmonton regained its two-goal lead on a power play early in the second. Kailer Yamamoto hit McLeod, who split the defenders and scored his second of the game and eighth of the season.
The Oilers added to their lead with midway through the second. A rebound came out to Foegele in the slot and he blasted it home.
Hyman made up for the goal that went in off him earlier in the game later in the second, scoring his 22nd on another rebound.
After killing off three straight power plays - all penalties taken by Evander Kane, who took eight minutes worth in a less than a nine-minute span - the Oilers were rewarded midway through the third. Puljujarvi made another nice pass to give Draisaitl an easy tap-in at the side of the net for his 48th goal, tying Toronto's Auston Matthews for the league lead.
NOTES: It was the third and final meeting between the teams, with the Oilers winning the previous two games in Arizona by 5-1 and 5-3. ... Arizona was missing a host of players in Conor Timmins (knee), Andrew Ladd (lower body), Liam O'Brien (upper body), Antoine Roussel (lower body), Jakob Chychrun (lower body) and Christian Fischer (lower body). ... Out for the Oilers: defenseman Kris Russell, who entered COVID-19 protocol Monday.

{coyotes} Scheifele scores in final seconds of OT, Jets beat Coyotes
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) Mark Scheifele scored his second goal of the game with 9.7 seconds left in overtime, giving the Winnipeg Jets a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night.
Scheifele went in alone and beat Arizona goalie Karel Vejmelka to send the Coyotes to their fifth straight loss. Arizona is 0-4-1 during the skid.
''Vejmelka stood on his head all night, so (I) just tried to keep it simple,'' Scheifele said.
''It's nice him being a right-handed goalie, usually that's glove side, so it's nice to feel having the blocker on that side. So I just tried to shoot it and hope it went in.''
Scheifele also scored in the first period as the Jets closed out a four-game homestand with a 3-1-0 record. Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves.
Arizona's Nick Ritchie scored a tying goal in the third period. Vejmelka stopped 38 shots.
Arizona head coach Andre Tourigny was proud of his players' effort against a team still in the playoff hunt.
''We talked about it after the second,'' Tourigny said. ''(The Jets) needed to win badly, they needed those two points. You want to be a proud team, a proud organization who fights every game and make it really tough on your opponent.
''We don't have the same opportunity as them, in the sense that we know we won't be in the playoffs, but at the same time we want to fight with the same urgency, the same determination, the same pride and we did it tonight.''
Vejmelka was stingy in the crease until 14 seconds left in the opening period when Scheifele scored his 25th of the season. Paul Stastny fired the puck at the net and a rebound bounced off Scheifele and past Vejmelka.
Winnipeg outshot Arizona 14-9 in the first period.
Early in the period, Coyotes forward Phil Kessel received acknowledgment on the scoreboard and cheers from the crowd for playing his 965th consecutive NHL game. That moves him into second place behind Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Keith Yandle (988).
The Jets had a power play early in the second period, but were unable to get a shot on goal.
Winnipeg had an apparent goal by Adam Lowry wiped off the scoreboard at 11:30 following a successful Arizona coach's challenge. A review ruled the puck had hit the netting above the glass 22 seconds earlier and play should have been stopped.
Jets interim head coach Dave Lowry said the team has been feeling the effects of playing five games in eight days.
''We've talked about it,'' Lowry said. ''When the coaches are tired, you can just imagine how the players are. And the stress, the build-up of the back-to-back games and the volume of games.
''Obviously, the next couple of days are going to be good for us to reset and recharge and get ready for the two really important games on the road.''
Vejmelka was the busier netminder in the middle period, stopping 11 shots. Hellebuyck had four saves.
Ritchie tied the game at 6:17 of the third when he poked at a loose puck under Hellebuyck.
''Tonight there was a lot of the game where we were back to that aggressive style, in your face, making it hard to play against,'' Ritchie said. ''It was a close game there tonight and we had a chance, for sure.''
The Coyotes were outshooting the Jets during the third period 10-5 with about five minutes remaining until Winnipeg turned up the tempo and had the 11-8 lead in shots at the end of regulation.
Arizona forward Lawson Crouse was called for tripping with 2:14 left in regulation. Winnipeg had one shot during the man advantage, and defenseman Josh Morrissey fired over the net.
Coyotes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere hit the post early in overtime.
UP NEXT
Arizona: Closes out three-game trip Monday at Edmonton.
Winnipeg: Open a two-game trip on Wednesday in Buffalo, before facing Toronto on Thursday.

{coyotes} Gaudreau's 3-point game leads Flames past Coyotes 4-2
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Johnny Gaudreau scored his 30th goal and added two assists to lead the Calgary Flames to a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night.
Matthew Tkachuk also scored his 30th, and Elias Lindholm and Rasmus Andersson added goals for Calgary, which improved to 16-2-2 in its last 20 home games.
Michael Carcone and Vladislav Kolyachonok scored their first NHL goals for Arizona, which lost its fourth straight.
Jacob Markstrom made 16 stops in the win and improved to 30-12-7, becoming the first Flames goalie to win 30 games in a season since Miikka Kiprusoff won 35 games in 2011-12.
Karel Vejmelka had 29 saves for the Coyotes and fell to 10-25-1.
Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Lindholm (32), and Mangiapane (30) gives the Flames four 30-goal scorers for the first time since 1993-94, when Gary Roberts (41), Theoren Fleury (40), Robert Reichel (40), and Joe Nieuwendyk (36) accomplished the feat.
After a lackluster opening 20 minutes, the Flames scored three goals in an eight-minute span to begin the second period.
Thirty-three seconds in, Tkachuk was left uncovered at the side of the net and one-timed a centering pass from Gaudreau.
Three minutes later, Arizona took its first penalty of the game and it took 15 seconds for the league's third-worst penalty kill to surrender a goal.
A quick tick-tack-toe passing sequence that started with Gaudreau to Tkachuk was finished off neatly by Lindholm at 3:35. Tkachuk's two-point night gives him a career-high 78 points.
Gaudreau made it 3-0 at 8:14, sprung on a two-man break by Nikita Zadorov's pass. Gaudreau decided to not to pass across to Blake Coleman, instead whipping a shot into the top corner.
It was the 200th goal of Gaudreau's career and he became the sixth member of the NHL's 2011 draft class to reach the milestone. Gaudreau was selected in the fourth round by Calgary, 104th overall.
The Coyotes got one back with 12 seconds left in the period when Carcone stole the puck at the faceoff dot and fired a shot over Markstrom's glove.
Calgary restored its three-goal lead on the power play 5:21 into the third when Andersson collected the puck in the neutral zone, carried the puck into the Coyotes end and scored on a deke to his backhand as he lost his balance and slid heavily into the end boards.
Arizona got back to within two when Kolyachonok one-timed Nick Schmaltz's setup over Markstrom's shoulder at 18:07.
Calgary finished 2 for 4 on the power play. Arizona went 0 for 3. The Flames, who have the NHL's top-ranked penalty kill at home, are a perfect 24 for 24 over their last eight games and have allowed five power-play goals at home this season on 86 chances.
NOTES: Flames center Sean Monahan was a healthy scratch. The seven-time 20-goal scorer has gone 14 games without a point. . Arizona center Jay Beagle (lower body) returned to the lineup after missing 36 games. . Calgary improves to 10-3-2 against the Central Division.
UP NEXT
Coyotes: At Winnipeg on Saturday night.
Flames: Host Edmonton on Saturday night.

Re the 'Dean Baldwin Painting' B727 at Roswell I don't think this is N191FE. We noted two reg unmarked 727 at Roswell 18/10/13, one Dean Baldwin titles and one Enmur Aviation titles. There are pics on the net of the Enmur Aviation 727 with '191' on nose wheel door presumably indicating that was N191FE...?CheersJim--On Thu, 24 Mar 2022, 00:35 bennettd3 via cactuswings, <cactus-wings@googlegroups.com> wrote:Hi,

The Dean Baldwin B727 seems to be N191FE.

On to Roswell
Doing an overflight of Roswell is the only good option.
Unfortunately I had no luck finding anyone who could do the task.
No other option than to do but doing Roswell the hard way.
Luckily it was a cool and clear efternoon with only a little haze.
Still, those AA aircraft can be hard to read, and I certainly missed a few MD80s and 757s.
Managed to bag the only AA frame I needed at KROW (N580AA), so I was happy.
There were only 6 SVA MD90s left. 5 had a reg but one was without markings what-so-ever (se attached photo)
Any help with that one is appreciated. Candidates are AFAIK : N181AS, N632AS, N635AS and N671AS.
Any help with the gateguard 727-200 advertising "Dean Baldwing Painting" also appreciated!
