{coyotes} Jaxon Stauber registers first shut out of his career, Utah blanks Golden Knights, 6-0

LAS VEGAS (AP) Nick Schmaltz scored twice, Jaxson Stauber made 29 saves and the Utah Hockey Club beat the Vegas Golden Knights 6-0 on Saturday night.

It was the 28th time Vegas has been shut out, but just the second time it lost 6-0, per Stathead. The Golden Knights also lost 6-0 in Calgary on Feb 9, 2022.

Clayton Keller, Alexander Kerfoot, Logan Cooley and Michael Carcone also scored for Utah.

Ilya Samsonov stopped 22 shots for Vegas.

Utah: Stauber was making his first start for the Utah franchise, and just the seventh of his career. The 25-year-old from Wayzata, Minnesota went 5-1-0 for Chicago during the 2022-23 season.

Vegas: The Golden Knights were shut out 4-0 in the first period. It marked the fifth time in franchise history they allowed four or more goals through the first period, while scoring none, and third time at home. They're now 0-5 in such games.

Opening puck drop. One night after playing one of its best games of the season, with a burst of energy against league-leading Winnipeg after returning from a five-game road trip, the Golden Knights looked flat from the start. Utah, which lost at home to Edmonton in overtime on Friday, scored three goals in the first 10:35.

Stauber's perfect night in stopping all 29 shots resulted in the first shut out of his career.

Utah: Hosts Dallas on Monday night.

Vegas: Hosts Edmonton on Tuesday night.

{coyotes} Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scores in OT to lift Oilers to 4-3 win over Utah

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored 1:18 into overtime and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Utah Hockey Club 4-3 on Friday night.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each tallied a goal and an assist, and Vasily Podkolzin also scored for the Oilers. Calvin Pickard stopped 28 shots.

Alexander Kerfoot and Logan Cooley scored in the first period for Utah, and Lawson Crouse tied the score in the third period. Karel Vejmelka had 28 saves.

Edmonton fell behind 2-0 late in the first before scoring three straight goals to take the lead. Podkolzin blasted the puck from 30 feet out to put Edmonton on board midway through the second, before Draisaitl and McDavid scored on power play goals 2 1/2 minutes apart to put the Oilers up 3-2 with 3:38 remaining in the middle period.

Crouse tied it for Utah at 3:42 of the third after snapping the puck over Pickard's shoulder.

Oilers: Edmonton didn't create a ton of scoring chances before the third period, but the Oilers were efficient in finding the right spots to attack during a pivotal second.

Utah: After struggling to stop two second-period power plays, Utah came through with a pivotal penalty kill in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Edmonton's offense recovered from a sluggish start late in the second when Draisaitl and McDavid both scored on power plays.

The Oilers generated three goals off a total of seven shots on goal in the second period.

Edmonton visits Colorado on Saturday to continue a three-game trip, and Utah visits Vegas.

{coyotes} Sergachev scores overtime winner, Utah Hockey Club beats Canadiens 3-2

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

MONTREAL (AP) Mikhail Sergachev scored the overtime winner as the Utah Hockey Club beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Sergachev tapped in a pass from Nick Schmaltz with 27 seconds left in the extra period to end the game. Jack McBain and Dylan Guenther also scored for Utah. Karel Vejmelka made 11 saves.

Alex Newhook and Jayden Struble scored for Montreal, which lost its second in a row after a dismal 6-2 defeat to Vegas on Saturday.

Sam Montembeault stopped 26 shots.

Guenther fired a cross-ice pass from Clayton Keller into the top corner to open the scoring at 6:23 of the second period. His 10th of the season came just after Utah's fourth power play of the night expired.

Struble, who drew into the lineup late after Mike Matheson (lower-body injury) was scratched, answered at 8:05 to tie the game. Fans had enough time to yell "shoooot!" before the defenseman ripped a shot off the crossbar and in.

Newhook pounced on a rebound for his fifth of the season, giving Montreal a 2-1 lead 46 seconds into the third.

Utah equalized at 4:17 as McBain buried a pass from Logan Cooley for his eighth.

Canadiens: The Canadiens spent a lot of time down a man in the first 30 minutes, killing four penalties.

Utah: Rookie Maveric Lamoureux played his 15th NHL game and his first in front of friends and family in Montreal. The 20-year-old from Quebec was swarmed by reporters after morning skate.

McBain's game-tying goal slowed Montreal's momentum early in the third and forced overtime. It was his sixth in nine games.

30 - That's how many shots the Canadiens have in their last two games. Utah outshot Montreal 14-5 in the first and 8-3 in the second.

Canadiens: Begin a three-game road trip against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

Utah: Hosts the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

Paul Bissonnette, who played over 200 games in the NHL, was assaulted by six men at a Scottsdale, Arizona restaurant on Sunday, according to police.

"There was an altercation inside the restaurant with six adult men and the management. Reportedly, Paul Bissonnette tried to help management calm the men and get them to leave. The situation escalated to the men assaulting Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside of the restaurant," Scottsdale Police Sgt. Allison Sempsis said in a statement.

Scottsdale police said Bissonnette's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but was taken to hospital for evaluation.

The six men were arrested and accused of assault and disorderly conduct.

Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Draft, Bissonnette recorded seven goals, 15 assists and 340 penalty minutes over 202 career games with Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes during his NHL career from 2008 to 2014.

Since his retirement from pro hockey in 2017, the 39-year-old native of Welland, Ont., has been prevalent in hockey media as a podcast host and analyst for TNT.

{coyotes} Marner scores twice as Maple Leafs win first meeting with Utah Hockey Club

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

TORONTO (AP) Mitch Marner scored twice in a second-period surge as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Utah Hockey Club 3-2 on Sunday night to extend their winning streak to four.

The victory, in the lone NHL game on the schedule, came in the first meeting between Toronto and Utah.

William Nylander scored his 14th for Toronto.

Logan Cooley and Jack McBain scored for Utah, which was playing its first back-to-back games of the season after snapping a three-game losing streak Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Toronto captain Auston Matthews ( upper-body injury ) missed his eighth game, but there is hope he may return this week. The Leafs have gone 7-1-0 in his absence.

Alex Nylander, signed this week from the AHL Marlies, made his Leafs debut and saw time on the power play with older brother William in the first period. The Nylanders become the 13th set of brothers to play for the franchise and the fifth set to play together for the Leafs.

With bad traffic in Toronto, the Nylander brothers took the subway to the rink. Utah's players also went to Plan B, leaving their bus to walk the final few blocks to the Scotiabank Arena.

Down 1-0 after a sluggish opening period, Toronto turned it up in the second with three goals in 5 minutes, 35 seconds. The Leafs outshot Utah 16-6 in the period.

Marner has six goals and eight assists in the eight games that Matthews has been out. He now has multipoint games in seven of his last eight outings, upping his season total to 11. Only Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov has more multipoint games, with 12.

Toronto heads to Florida to face the Panthers on Wednesday and Tampa Bay on Saturday. Utah wraps up its four-game road trip Wednesday in Montreal.

{coyotes} Sidney Crosby scores 600th career NHL goal, but Penguins fall to Utah 6-1

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

PITTSBURGH (AP) Sidney Crosby scored his 600th NHL goal for Pittsburgh on Saturday night but the Penguins lost 6-1 to the Utah Hockey Club.

Dylan Guenther scored twice, while Nick Bjugstad, Jack McBain, Mikhail Sergachev and Alexander Kerfoot also scored for Utah.

Karel Vejmelka stopped 27 shots for Utah.

Crosby is the 21st player in NHL history to score 600 goals. He reached the milestone with 10 seconds left on a five-on-three power play and now has seven goals in his last 12 games. Crosby finished a one-timer from the right side of the net, set up on a pass from Erik Karlsson at 3:11 of the second period.

Karlsson surpassed Borje Salming for 15th place on the NHL's career assists list among defensemen.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves for Pittsburgh.

Crosby and Alex Ovechkin are the only active players with at least 600 NHL goals. Crosby is the seventh player in NHL history to score 600 goals with one team and joined Mario Lemieux (690) as the only two Penguins to score 600 goals with the franchise. Pittsburgh is the second team in NHL history with multiple 600-goal scorers, joining Detroit's Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman.

Utah: Snapped a three-game losing streak.

Penguins: Crosby's milestone goal couldn't prevent Pittsburgh from losing for the 14th time in its last 18 games. Pittsburgh has given up at least four goals in six of its last 10 games.

Bjugstad, who spent parts of two seasons with Pittsburgh, gave Utah the momentum and a 3-1 lead just 7:26 after Crosby's goal.

Crosby and Wayne Gretzky are the only players in NHL history with at least 600 goals, 1,600 points, three Stanley Cups and two Conn Smythe trophies.

Utah: Visits Toronto on Sunday.

Penguins: Close a five-game homestand Wednesday night against Vancouver.

{coyotes} Joonas Korpisalo stops 21 shots, Elias Lindholm scores, and Bruins win 1st game since firing coach

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

BOSTON (AP) Joonas Korpisalo stopped 21 shots, Elias Lindholm scored the game's only goal, and the Boston Bruins beat the Utah Hockey Club 1-0 on Thursday night in their first game since the team fired coach Jim Montgomery and named Joe Sacco as interim coach.

The win snapped Boston's three-game losing streak. Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves for Utah, which has now lost three straight.

After coming up empty on their first four power-play opportunities, the Bruins struck on their fifth extra-man chance when Lindholm chipped in a rebound for his third goal of the season with 7:19 left in the second period.

Boston thought it had the game sealed when David Pastrnak fired into an open net with 58.8 seconds to play, but the goal was taken off the board after a video review.

Utah: On the first game of a four-game road trip, Utah went 0 for 4 on the power play with the last chance coming with 6:56 remaining.

Bruins: The Bruins heard a few boos from the crowd after failing on all three of their power-play chances in the first period. Sacco got his first win as a head coach since 2014 when he was with the Colorado Avalanche.

The scoring chance that led to Lindholm cleaning up a rebound began when Pastrnak sent a pass from the circle to Brad Marchand, who was stationed in front of the net. Both were credited with assists on Lindholm's goal.

The NHL's two most penalized teams lived up to their reputation. Ranked first in penalty minutes entering Thursday's game, Boston was penalized four times. Ranked second in penalty minutes, Utah went to the box three times in the first period and seven for the game.

Utah: Travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Boston: Visits Detroit on Saturday.

{coyotes} Utah Hockey Club sets single-day Delta Center, NHL records with jersey sales

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

The Utah Hockey Club set records last week when its jerseys went on sale for the first time.

The NHL established a new franchise in Utah on April 18, but jerseys didn't go on sale to the public until Utah played the Vegas Golden Knights at Delta Center on Nov. 15, creating pent-up demand.

Fans lined up at the team store, and Utah set the Delta Center single-day sports-event sales record. It beat the previous record -- set at its inaugural game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 8, when other merchandise was available -- by 48 percent.

Delta Center has been the home of the NBA's Utah Jazz since 1991.

Utah set an NHL record, too. Among regular-season games at home arenas, Utah had the best single-game net merchandise sales total, beating the previous best sales total by 29 percent.

Only one game in the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs at a home arena has had a higher single-game net merchandise sales total: the Golden Knights' clinching win in Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on June 23, 2023.

Utah jerseys on NHLShop.com and NHLShop.ca sold out in 24 hours. The team store at Delta Center still has some inventory available. Only the jerseys in the team store come with the inaugural season shoulder patches worn by the players.

Developing a new NHL jersey is usually an 18-month process that includes design, trademark clearance, procurement of raw materials, and finally the manufacturing of game and retail versions.

Utah worked with the NHL and Fanatics to produce jerseys as quickly as possible, using a temporary brand identity for 2024-25 while developing a permanent one for 2025-26.

The first batch includes home and away jerseys. All are adult sizes, and most are blank, because that was most efficient amid the tight timeline, but there are a limited number of player jerseys, and fans can customize blank jerseys.

All are from the Fanatics Premium line, which features a holographic NHL Shield on the neck and the same fabric and graphic techniques as the Authentic Pro line. Blank jerseys are $200. Player jerseys -- or blank jerseys customized with player names and numbers -- are $250. Other customized jerseys are $275.

President of hockey operations Chris Armstrong said Utah will try to restock as early as possible in 2025. Youth sizes will come in the next wave.

"Ultimately, our goal for the entire season is to get as many jerseys in the hands of our fans as we possibly can," Armstrong said.

The inaugural season jerseys will be a collector's item. Armstrong said Utah is deep in the process of developing jerseys for next season, looking at many options.

"What I would say is that, based on the very encouraging feedback that we've received from fans and our players alike on the inaugural season jersey design, we'll be making some adjustments and some what we think are improvements, but we don't want to deviate too far from what's already been well received in our inaugural season," he said.

{coyotes} Ovechkin scores twice before leaving with apparent injury, leads Capitals past Utah 6-2

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Alex Ovechkin scored twice, tying an NHL record, before leaving with an apparent leg injury to propel the Washington Capitals to a 6-2 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Monday night.

Ovechkin scored on Connor Ingram, making Ingram the 178th different goaltender he's scored on in his 20-year NHL career, tying a league record held by Jaromir Jagr. He left the ice 5:30 into the third with an apparent left leg injury.

Charlie Lindgren had 24 saves for the Capitals. Dylan Strome and Brandon Duhaime both tallied a goal and an assist.

Jack McBain and Nick Bjugstad scored for Utah. Karel Vejmelka replaced Ingram in the net during the second period. They combined for 18 saves.

Utah struck first when McBain tapped home the puck 3:05 into the first.

Strome tied it on an unassisted wrap-around. Nic Dowd snapped the puck in from close range just 10 seconds later to put the Capitals in front. Ovechkin's long-distance blast past Ingram's glove extended Washington's lead with 8:55 left in the first. He struck again on a 40-foot slap shot on a power play 5:38 into the second to put the Capitals up 4-1.

Capitals: Washington has scored 24 goals over its last four road games, winning all four. The Capitals have scored at least five goals in each game.

Utah: McBain has scored a team-high three goals over Utah's last five games. Ian Cole, who assisted on McBain's goal, tallied his 200th career point.

Strome and Dowd scored 10 seconds apart to erase Washington's early 1-0 deficit.

Ovechkin leads the NHL with 15 goals this season and has scored five over his last two games.

Washington hosts Colorado on Thursday while Utah begins a four-game road swing at Boston on Thursday.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) William Karlsson tipped-in the go-ahead goal with 1:13 left, and the Vegas Golden Knights rallied past the Utah Hockey Club 4-2 on Friday night.

Karlsson scored twice in the final 73 seconds, adding an empty-netter with 28.2 seconds left. Tomas Hertl had a pair of power-play goals to help Vegas erase a two-goal deficit. Adin Hill made 32 saves for the Golden Knights.

Logan Cooley and Mikhail Sergachev scored for Utah. Karel Vejmelka made 25 saves.

Cooley blasted in a 30-foot slap shot in the first period and Sergachev scored on a second-period power play to put Utah ahead 2-0.

Hertl got Vegas on the board when he tapped in the puck later in the second and then tied it in the third on another close-range blast.

Golden Knights: Creating shots didn't come easy for Vegas, but success on the power play helped turn the game around.

Utah: Better-than-usual defensive form kept Utah competitive, but diminishing returns on offense in the third period made it tough to prevent a rally.

Hertl snapped the puck past Vejmelka's shoulder with 11:37 left in the third to tie the game.

Utah had 16 shots on goal in the first period, its most in a period this season.

Vegas hosts Washington on Sunday, while Utah hosts the Capitals on Monday.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Nick Bjugstad scored his second goal of the game to cap the Utah Hockey Club's three-goal flurry in a 2 1/2-minute span of the third period in a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

Jack McBain and Mikhail Sergachev also scored for Utah, which won at home after losing three of four on the road. Michael Kesselring had two assists and Karel Vejmelka had a career-high 49 saves to get his first win in five games.

Martin Necas scored for Carolina, which lost for just the second time in 11 games and ended a streak of nine straight games with at least four goals. Pyotr Kochetkov gave up three goals on 18 shots before he was replaced after giving up Sergachev's goal that made it 3-1 at 7:11 of the third period. Spencer Martin stopped two of the three shots he faced.

Vejmelka had 15 saves in the first period, 16 in the second and 18 in the third.

McBain started the outburst at 5:09 of the third, and Bjugstad capped it 17 seconds after Martin came on.

Bjugstad got Utah on the scoreboard first with 2:05 left in the first period with his first goal of the season and 150th of his career. Necas tied it with a power-play goal midway through the second.

Hurricanes: Carolina scored 44 goals in their previous nine games, found it tougher in Utah despite a 50-21 advantage in shots on goal.

Utah: After a road trip where Utah went 1-2-1, the team got a four-day break – the longest of the season so far -- but the Hurricanes consistently beat the home team to the puck and created nearly double the scoring chances until the third period.

Just 22 seconds after McBain's score, Lawson Krause hit the crossbar on a shot that was initially ruled a goal. After the review took the score off the board, Sergachev drove home his goal and Bjugstad added his all.

Utah improved to 5-0-2 when scoring first.

Utah hosts Vegas on Friday, and Hurricanes host Ottawa on Saturday.
