Connor Ingram was placed on waivers by Utah on Thursday. The team said last week that the goalie would not participate in training camp and they would try and trade him. Ingram, 28, played 22 games for Utah last season before entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on March 9. He went 9-8-4 with a 3.27 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. Ingram was cleared by the program on Aug. 20.

{coyotes} Shane Doan's wife to chair committee focused on bringing NHL back to Arizona

--

If there's one family that could have a major impact on bringing hockey back to the desert, it's the Doans.

Andrea Doan, the wife of Shane Doan and mother of Sabres forward Josh Doan, is hoping to do just that as she gets set to chair a committee focused on bringing an NHL team back to Arizona, according to Craig Morgan on the Arizona Insider substack on Monday.

The committee was originally founded by Maricopa County Board of Supervisors chair Tom Galvin in early 2025, with the intention of partnering with local political, business, community and sports leaders to have a team in the Phoenix metro area again.

"Andrea Doan is a longstanding supporter of Arizona hockey and is married to Shane Doan, who was instrumental in building Arizona's hockey legacy," Galvin said to Morgan. "She is as much a part of the Arizona hockey story over the last 20-plus years as Shane. Andrea has dedicated much of her personal life to our community and building support for Arizona hockey. Andrea's knowledge of the industry and her connections to Arizona and the NHL are instrumental to our mission."

Doan's role with the committee, according to her and Galvin, will be behind-the-scenes as she "leads conversations with Arizona leaders and the NHL about developing a strategy to attract an expansion team to Arizona."

Arizona lost the Coyotes in April 2024 when the team was sold by previous owner Alex Meruelo to the Smith Entertainment Group, which relocated the team to Salt Lake City.

Meruelo retained the rights to the Coyotes' name, logo and trademark and he was granted a five-year window to build an arena and reactivate the Arizona franchise. However, Meruelo relinquished his rights to the franchise in July 2024 after failed bids for new arena locations.

This new group, led by Doan, is hoping to pick up the pieces with a more suitable ownership group and an arena in a new location, either in downtown Phoenix or east of downtown, according to Morgan.

They're also hoping to have a stronger connection to the community of Phoenix, which is why bringing in Andrea Doan became a priority for Galvin and the committee.

While it was expected by many that Shane Doan would take part, the 21-year NHLer and former long-time captain of the Coyotes remains under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a special advisor to the general manager.

"Understanding what it takes to build and sustain the grassroots side of the game is so important, and Andrea understands that so much more than I even understand it because of how involved she was with Josh when he played minor hockey," Shane said to Morgan. "She not only saw the game from the professional level, she sees it as a parent and for people that played or got to experience hockey with all the good that it can provide for a family and teaching kids and helping kids and giving them a community outside of just their family or their school. She has the ability to connect all of that."

Logan Cooley is day to day with an undisclosed injury after the forward left a 3-2 preseason loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday in the third period. Cooley took a hit along the boards from Avalanche forward Zakhar Bardakov and did not return. Coach Andre Tourigny also told the Mammoth website that forwards Barrett Hayton and Jack McBain (each undisclosed) are day to day, forward Alex Kerfoot (lower body) remains week to week and forward Liam O'Brien is "coming along" from a lower-body injury.

{coyotes} Utah Mammoth parting ways with goaltender Connor Ingram

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Connor Ingram and the Utah Mammoth have agreed to part ways, and the veteran goaltender will not participate in training camp.

General manager Bill Armstrong said Ingram will be placed on waivers, clearing the way for him to sign with another team before the regular season starts in October. Ingram did not report for the opening day of training camp on Wednesday at Utah's new practice facility in Sandy.

"We had a mutual agreement where we said, 'Hey, listen, we have our goaltenders,'" Armstrong said. "It's probably best for him not to come to camp and put himself in a (tough) situation."

Ingram began last season as Utah's top goaltender. He went 9-8-4 with a 3.27 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in 22 games. He was hampered by injuries before entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on March 9 following his mother's death from breast cancer.

Ingram, 28, had a previous stint in the player assistance program in 2021 for treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

"We're excited for him and his path to recovery, that's the biggest thing," Armstrong said. "He will either get a chance to play for another NHL team or he will go to the American Hockey League and resume his play. But at the end of the day he will be playing and that's what we're so excited for."

Although Ingram was cleared to play again on Aug. 20, Utah had already decided to move on. The Mammoth signed Karel Vejmelka to a contract extension in March and then added veteran goaltender Vitek Vanecek on a one-year deal in July.

Vejmelka posted a 26-22-8 record for Utah last season while starting 55 of 58 games. He had a 2.58 GAA and a .904 save percentage, setting a career high in wins, save percentage and goals-against average.

"He showed us he can win games," Utah coach André Tourigny said. "He can show up for us some nights when we struggle (offensively) and win the game for us. He showed us again he can bounce back. He showed he can be consistent. So he proved a lot to himself and to everybody last year."

Vejmelka started every game except one over the final two months of the regular season. He believes the extended ice time has prepared him well for a larger role this season.

"I feel comfortable game by game and I just feel more comfortable in every moment," Vejmelka said.

Vanecek gives Utah another experienced option at goaltender. He has a 96-56-21 record, 2.83 GAA, .902 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 188 career NHL appearances with Florida, San Jose, New Jersey, and Washington over the past five seasons.

{coyotes} NHL CBA establishes a $4M annual fund for retired players' health care and wellness

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Beyond the noticeable changes in the new NHL collective bargaining agreement like expanding the regular season to 84 games and implementing a playoff salary cap is an investment in caring for former players that has not existed until now.

The league and union will contribute $4 million annually to the newly established Retired Players Emergency Healthcare and Wellness Fund. NHL Alumni Association president and executive director Glenn Healy, a retired goaltender, said the plan provides access to a family doctor and a mental wellness professional for any player, "whether you played one shift or 10,000 games."

Healy, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and NHLPA assistant executive director Ron Hainsey shared details about the plan Tuesday for a small group of reporters attending the league's annual preseason player media tour.

"Our wellness plan is not like basketball," Healy said. "It's not like football. We're different in this sport. We don't have our teeth. We have different issues, and this is I think a real step forward for the players. This is groundbreaking. This is Christmas Day for us."

The CBA, which runs through 2030, also increases the insurance subsidy retired players are eligible for to $10,000 a year.

"This is just another additional thing we can do for our current and former players," said Hainsey, who played over 1,000 games from 2002-20. "The idea is when our players do leave the game here, in the future, that they're in a totally different situation for their post-career lives."

Healy, a Stanley Cup champion with the New York Rangers in 1994, has been pushing to fill this gap for some time and met with Marty Walsh about it when he took over running the union in 2023. Walsh at the time said alumni well-being was high on the list of things the NHLPA wanted to focus on, and this is evidence of the league joining in on that effort.

"We certainly recognize at the league the importance of our history and the men who made that history and formed that foundation for the success we're having today, so we're very appreciative of that," Daly said. "Obviously, our work with the Alumni Association has grown in leaps and bounds over the years."

St. Louis forward Robert Thomas, the Blues' alternate player representative, when asked his favorite parts of the new CBA, mentioned not the elimination of team dress codes or fitness testing but pensions and health benefits for alumni.

"There's so many guys that did so much for the league and the players in the past," Thomas said. "Trying to continue to make that a No. 1 priority moving forward is something that a lot of players feel really good about."

Decision on Hockey Canada players acquitted of sexual assault could be coming soon

In the aftermath of a judge in Ontario finding five members of Canada's 2018 world junior team not guilty in their sexual assault trial, their status remains unclear with less than a month to go before the start of the season.

The judge found in late July that the prosecution could not meet the onus of proof for the charges against Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote and Alex Formenton. The league said at the time they are ineligible until they are reinstated, something the Players' Association disagrees with.

Daly said he anticipates a decision on the players "at some point in the relatively near future."

Work continues on the main hockey arena for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan

NHL players in February are set to return to the Olympics for the first time since 2014. Commissioner Gary Bettman had previously expressed concerns about the arenas being ready on time, and progress on that front is ongoing.

Daly acknowledged that while "the arena's not done, it's being worked on diligently." He said a hockey-related, on-ice test event is scheduled for December, though not with fans in the stands.

"We'll find out in early December how far away we are," Daly said.

The NHL draft is expected to be decentralized again this summer

For a second consecutive year, the NHL draft will be a decentralized event, with team staff not on site, Daly confirmed. The league experimented with the format in June after a vast majority of teams voted to decentralize the event, like the NFL and NBA have done for quite some time.

"It was clear that, while it wasn't as overwhelming a vote as it was the first time we asked, it was still a strong majority who wanted to have a decentralized draft," Daly said.

{coyotes} Report: NHL to implement playoff salary cap this season

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

The National Hockey League and the Players' Association ratified an extension to their collective bargaining agreement in late June, which included a playoff salary cap.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston, the cap will be implemented immediately and take effect for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, meaning each team will be limited to icing a cap-compliant, 20-man roster for each game.

As a result of the new rule, teams will no longer be able to stash players on long-term injury reserve and use their cap space to add players for the postseason. The new rule will also prevent teams from accruing cap space throughout the season and acquiring players mid-season at a fraction of their salary cap hit. Under the new playoff cap, a players' full-season salary will be used to calculate if a team is compliant for the postseason.

The only way to reduce an incoming cap hit will be via salary retention, which has now been limited by the elimination of double retention trades where players had salary retained by a third-party team in deals.

Other immediate changes as part of the rolling implementation of the four-year CBA extension include: no deferred compensation in contracts, the removal of the rule preventing players from endorsing wine and spirits, and a new rule that prevents teams from implementing a player dress code.

{coyotes} Mammoth prospect Iginla healthy ahead of 2025-26 campaign

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Utah Mammoth prospect Tij Iginla told reporters on Wednesday that he is fully healthy after having surgery on both hips last season.

The 19-year-old forward only appeared in 21 games with the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets last season before undergoing surgery in December.

Iginla was the Mammoth's first-ever draft pick, sixth overall, in 2024 after the team relocated from Arizona after recording 47 goals and 84 points in 64 games with the Rockets during the 2023-24 campaign.

He registered 14 goals and 32 points in 21 games before the injury.

The 6-foot-5 forward will make a push to make the Mammoth squad this season but if he doesn't, he will be expected to be a huge factor for a Rockets squad that is hosting the Memorial Cup in 2026.

"Just through the summer,  [I was] just keeping getting stronger, more powerful, all that stuff from a weight-room side of things," Iginla told NHL.com in July. "I keep honing my skills on the ice and then just go into camp as read as I can and try to give myself the best chance that I can to make the team."

Utah finished sixth in the Central Division with a 38-31-13 record and were seven points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference last season.

Kelowna finished last in the WHL last season with an 18-44-6 record last season while missing Iginla for most of the season.
