{coyotes} Werenski, Patrick Kane invited to attend U.S. Olympic camp

--
Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Zach Werenski and Patrick Kane are among 44 NHL players invited to the United States' orientation camp that will decide its final 25-man roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 in February.

The camp will be held in Plymouth, Michigan, on Aug. 26 and 27.

Werenski was a finalist for the Norris Trophy, given to the NHL's top defenseman, after he had 82 points (23 goals, 59 assists) in 81 games last season for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 28-year-old finished second in the voting behind Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche).

Kane had 59 points (21 goals, 38 assists) in 72 games last season, his second with the Detroit Red Wings. The 36-year-old forward has 1,343 points (492 goals, 851 assists) in 1,302 regular-season games with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and the Red Wings, and 138 points (53 goals, 85 assists) in 143 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He won the Cup three times with Chicago (2010, 2013, 2015).

The men's tournament will start with preliminary games Feb. 11, with the gold medal game scheduled for Feb. 22. This is the first time NHL players will participate in the Winter Olympics since Sochi in 2014.

In the Olympics, each team traditionally carries 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goalies.

Six players were named to the U.S. roster June 16: Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel, Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk, Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

All 23 players who participated at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February will be at the camp with the exception of Matthew Tkachuk, who managed to help the Panthers win a second straight Stanley Cup championship despite sustaining a torn adductor muscle and sports hernia during the best-on-best tournament. The U.S. lost in overtime to Canada in the 4 Nations championship game on Feb. 20.

Among the invitees are three No. 1 picks in the NHL Draft, including Kane (2007), Matthews (2016) and Jack Hughes (2019).

--
Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Utah Mammoth prospect Caleb Desnoyers underwent wrist surgery and is expected to be out 12 weeks, the team announced on Thursday.

Desnoyers, 18, was selected fourth overall by the Mammoth in June's draft.

— Utah Mammoth PR (@UtahMammoth_PR) August 14, 2025

The 6-foot-2 centre played last season with the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League's Moncton Wildcats, finishing tied for fifth in league scoring with 35 goals and 84 points in 56 games.

He helped lead the Wildcats to the league's best record of 53-9-2 and went on to lead Moncton to a Gilles-Courteau Trophy as league champion and represented the QMJHL at the Memorial Cup.

Desnoyers finished second in playoff scoring with nine goals and 30 points in 19 games and won the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the QMJHL playoff MVP.

The Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., native was named as captain of the Wildcats in June, but has not made a decision about a possible jump to the NCAA or returning to the QMJHL.

Utah drafted Desnoyers after finishing last season with a 38-31-13 record and moving up 10 spots in the draft lottery in order to select him fourth overall.

SALT LAKE CITY — The owners of the NHL's Utah Mammoth have filed a lawsuit against a hockey equipment bag manufacturer to settle a trademark dispute.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Utah claims the Mammoth and Mammoth Hockey LLC have reached a stalemate in the trademark fight.

"Utah Mammoth and the NHL believe strongly that we have the right to use the name Utah Mammoth under federal and state law, and that our use will not harm the defendant or its business in any way," Smith Entertainment Group officials said in a statement. "We have taken this action only after careful consideration based on the defendant's position."

The Mammoth announced the new name and logo in May following the team's first season in Utah. The team used the name Utah Hockey Club for its first season after moving from Arizona to Salt Lake City.

Oregon-based Mammoth Hockey issued a cease-and-desist letter not long after the new franchise name was unveiled, claiming potential customers would confuse the two brands and fans of rival teams would not purchase its products. The team and the company both have mammoth-shaped logos, and are associated with "Mammoth" and "hockey," according to the letter.

Mammoth Hockey launched in 2014 and manufactures large equipment bags geared toward hockey players.

"Mammoth Hockey intends to vigorously defend the litigation recently commenced against it by Utah Mammoth of the National Hockey League and protect its longstanding trademark used in connection with the hockey goods it has manufactured and sold for the past 10 years," Mammoth Hockey co-founder Erik Olson said in a statement to the Deseret News.
