{coyotes} Moore scores twice as Kings extend road winning streak with 4-1 victory over Coyotes

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Trevor Moore scored two goals and the Los Angeles Kings extended their season-opening road winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.

Anze Kopitar and Phillip Danault also scored and Pheonix Copley made 30 saves for the Kings, who are tied for the third-longest such streak in NHL history. Buffalo holds the record by winning its first 10 road games in 2006-07.

"We are a veteran team," Kings coach Todd McLellan said. "We have been together as a group for a long time. We understand what our structure is. Our game management skills have gotten better from the start of the year until now.

"All of those things are really important when you play on the road. We seem to play a simpler game. Everybody pulls on the rope the right way. We don't need outstanding games from everybody every night. We just need good games, and we've been getting them."

Lawson Crouse scored and Connor Ingram made 21 saves for the Coyotes, who played their seventh home game of the season. Ingram is 6-2 in his eight starts this season, and Crouse has scored in three of the last four games and eight of the last 10.

Los Angeles killed all six penalties, including a double minor on Adrian Kempe when the score was 3-1 midway through the third period. The Kings have not given up a power play goal in the last seven games and 26 penalty-kill situations.

"First, we are blocking a lot of shots," Copley said. "We're taking away lanes. I thought we did a really good job keeping them to the outside. We've been sticking to keeping it simple, and that was has been leading to the success."

Copley gave up three goals in the first 8:31 before being pulled in the Kings' 5-4 victory here Oct. 27, and McLellan said the Kings targeted this game for his return. Cam Talbot had started the last three and eight of the last 10.

"In the back of our minds we were always thinking about playing him here again," McLellan said. "Back to the scene of the crime. But not his crime. Our crime. Try to get the players to respond to him and he to them."

Moore scored a short-handed goal at 3:36 of the first period. Danault picked up a pass that ricocheted off a Moore's skate and returned it to Moore, who picked it up along the center side boards and beat Ingram with a wrist shot high to the glove side.

"Todd put a pretty big emphasis on our start and we wanted to be better," Moore said.

Copley saved breakaways by Jason Zucker and Nick Schmaltz in the final nine minutes of the first period, and Crouse missed the net on a breakaway in the last minute.

"We played solid defensively," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. "Even offensively, we created a lot of chances but did not bury them. We did a lot of good things. It was just a matter of execution."

{coyotes} Scheifele, with a goal and two assists, leads Winnipeg Jets over Arizona Coyotes 5-2

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) Mark Scheifele had a goal and two assists to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.

Kyle Connor, with his league-leading 14th goal, Josh Morrissey, Vladislav Namestnikov and Mason Appleton also scored for Winnipeg (10-5-2), which has won three in a row and six of its last seven. Laurent Brossoit made 16 saves.

With the win, the Jets concluded their five-game homestand with a 4-1-0 record.

Matt Dumba and Matias Maccelli scored goals for Arizona (8-7-2) and Karel Vejmelka stopped 21 of 25 shots.

Morrissey gave Winnipeg a 4-2 lead 4:15 into the third period, converting a pass from Scheifele on a 2-on-1.

Appleton sealed it with an empty-netter with 2:30 remaining.

Connor scored 11:26 into the middle frame, taking a quick pass from Scheifele and scoring over Vejmelka's right shoulder to put the Jets ahead 3-2.

Dumba knotted the score at 2-2 after deflecting a perfect pass from Travis Boyd past Brossoit at 6:08 of the second period.

The Jets rebounded from a 1-0 deficit with a pair of goals just 58 seconds apart in the opening frame.

Scheifele scored on a backhanded shot at the 17:04 mark to tie things up.

Namestnikov followed by beating Vejmelka to the puck behind the goal, then banking a shot into the vacated net off Arizona's Lawson Crouse, who was in front.

Maccelli opened the scoring, converting a pass from J.J. Moser, who found Maccelli alone at the side of an empty net.

Morrissey's first-period assist was the 200th of his NHL career, which makes him the third defenseman in franchise history to reach that milestone.

Re: [cactuswings 4608] REQ: Victorville 28/09/23

Hi Dave...no, virgin.net long gone! Doesn't bounce on people, annoyingly.

North end CSN B773 attached. wears N5511Y. But yes, to be B-20E7 if it ever delivers.
No China E'n 787 seen anywhere (14/10 anyway), Ethiopian tail in several panned sequences.
Yes I have regs SE-RXA/B in photos but are current on N register.

5mb photo, hope it gets through.

CSN 787 63719 has been at Kelly since 8/23.
Probably you saw this, new 7773 for CSN is one of half a dozen remotely parked aircraft at the N end of the N-S runway, N5511Y 65240. No engines. (in a line with 2 Norwegian 789s, ex SIA 773, 2 FDX MD11s and grey ex Dutch AF DC10). close to fence if you hug the peri off-road, clockwise after passing the mound along Adelanto Road.

The only other CSN present AFAIK is a WFU 772, B-2054 27360. from the mound area this was approx straight across, due E, 'arse on'. I didn't read this but my photo clearly shows full CSN logo on the rudder, but the logo part of the tail is painted over, white. per this, with reg on wing:

{coyotes} Coyotes score twice in 28 seconds in 3rd period, send Blue Jackets to their 7th straight loss

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Logan Cooley and Lawson Crouse scored 28 seconds apart in the third period as the Arizona Coyotes rallied to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Thursday night.

The victory was the second road win in three games for the Coyotes, who extended the Blue Jackets' losing streak to seven games.

Barrett Hayton also scored for Arizona, and Connor Ingram stopped 39 shots to remain undefeated against Columbus in three games. The Coyotes picked up points for the third straight game.

"That was a good, resilient game for us," Arizona coach André Tourigny said. "Obviously, it was not a Picasso that we played, but at the end of the day we have to be at happy about the result."

Damon Severson scored twice and Elvis Merzlikins stopped 29 for the Blue Jackets, who have lost three in a row at home and fell for the sixth straight game after holding a lead.

After a scoreless first period, Severson gave Columbus the lead at 1:44 of the second with a shot from the right circle for his second goal of the season. The secondary assistant by Ivan Provorov was his 10th and made him the team's point leader.

Hayton pulled the Coyotes even with a shot from his knees just in front of the net that slid to the left of Merzlikins at 6:19. It was Hayton's fourth point in five games.

The score remained tied until the third period when Cooley gave Arizona the lead on its second power play of the night, scoring off a wrister from the left circle at 9:38. Crouse made it 3-1 just 28 seconds later.

"A lot of our D played a heck of a game to put a lot of pressure on their forwards there towards the end, and we got the win," Cooley said.

Severson's second goal came with 1:57 remaining and an extra skater on in place of Merzlikins, but Columbus could get no closer.

"That's the NHL," Blue Jackets coach Pascale Vincent said. "Nobody's going to give you anything, and we can't feel sorry for ourselves. Tomorrow we're going to get up and do it again, and then find solutions."

{coyotes} NHL Draft change anticipated by 2025 if not sooner, Bettman, Daly say

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

STOCKHOLM -- A change is coming to the NHL Draft, but the League may wait until 2025 to implement it.

Speaking before the first game of the 2023 NHL Global Series Sweden presented by Fastenal on Thursday, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly discussed the draft and other topics, including plans for a World Cup and participation by NHL players in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics in Italy.

Bettman said the idea of exploring the change where most team representatives will stay in their home cities instead of having all 32 clubs represented on the draft floor came from a few teams.

"We were very comfortable, and still are, with the format that we've been using," Bettman said. "It's different than anybody else uses, and we kind of liked it. This was an organic proposal that a number of clubs suggested, and we said we're not going to fight it. We'll take a poll of all the clubs and the overwhelming majority want to make a change."

Daly said the NHL is still trying to determine if it can happen for the 2024 NHL Draft.

"The only open issue is whether we do that as early as 2024 or whether we push it 2025," Daly said. "I think our objective is to have a 2024 draft that looks a lot like our traditional draft and then transition in 2025, but we don't have enough information to say that's what's going to happen."

Bettman said even with the change, the draft will still be a special event on the NHL calendar.

"The event in either format is still the major event, there's still going to be fans invited, the players, the prospects are going to be there with their families," Bettman said. "The only difference will be whether or not the clubs will be on the floor meeting as opposed to being at home where they can do their own fan events in market and they have more access to all their personnel in real time."

With the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild in Stockholm for the 2023 Global Series, the question of an international calendar was raised. As Daly has said previously, the hopes are to have a World Cup in February of 2025 and NHL players participate in the Winter Olympics the following year.

"We're working with the (NHL) Players' Association on the construct of [the World Cup]," Daly said. "And then after that, we would like to be in a regular rotation between the Olympics and the World Cup every other year. One or the other.

"That obviously involves us having an agreement to go to Milan, and that is still a work in progress. All parties are aligned in terms of trying to make it happen, so hopefully in the next couple of months, we'll have a good understanding of where we are."

Bettman said several issues have made it difficult to put together plans for a World Cup.

"I think at minimum there are three factors that have impacted our ability to nail something down," Bettman said. "One was COVID. Two was the change in executive directors at the Players' Association, and three, the political climate in the world in terms of how some countries are interacting with others.

"And those are all factors that we've had to deal with. Not by way of an excuse because we're ultimately responsible for getting it done, but that's just the real-world practicalities of what we've had to encounter over the last three years."

Other topics discussed by Bettman and Daly were:

The Arizona Coyotes arena situation:

"The Coyotes need a new building and it's being worked on, and my anticipation is that at some point in the middle of the season plans should get locked down and we'll be ready to understand long term what the building situation will be. Hopefully it will be a building coming out of the ground in the right place in greater Phoenix," Bettman said.

On possible expansion:

"We get expressions of interest on a regular basis. You hear me name Quebec City, Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake City, but we're not in expansion mode. We take meetings, we listen, but we're not about to say, 'If you want an expansion team submit your application by X date. We're not doing that. That doesn't mean that at some point somebody may create a proposal that we find so intriguing that we decide to explore it and maybe pursue it, but that's not what we're doing now," Bettman said.

On possibly holding a Global Series in Germany:

"We have explored a number of places, and we continue to explore. We played two exhibition games in Australia this year. Previously, we played exhibition games in China. We're continuing to look at all the various places that have expressed an interest in having our games, whether it's preseason or regular season, and Germany certainly is on the list," Bettman said.
