Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith said he's completely recovered from a knee injury that cost him the final 10 games of the season and damaged the Coyotes' chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"Everything is good, everything is healed up 100 percent," Smith told the Coyotes website Wednesday. "This past couple of weeks I've really felt I've kind of gotten over the hump and felt better about myself. I got back into the gym this week and I'm feeling good and strong, and I'm looking forward to a new season."
Smith sustained a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee in a game against the New York Rangers on March 24 and didn't play again. Without Smith, the Coyotes went 3-4-3 in their final 10 games and missed the playoffs for the second straight season, ending up two points behind the Dallas Stars in the race for the second wild-card berth in the Western Conference.
Smith led NHL goalies in games (61), starts (60), shots against (1,844) and saves (1,687) before the injury.
