{coyotes} Coyotes sign Samuelsson, Shinnimin to 1-year contracts

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Coyotes have signed defenseman Philip Samuelsson and forward Brendan Shinnimin to one-year, two-way contracts, avoiding salary arbitration.

The Coyotes announced the moves Wednesday. They did not reveal financial terms.

The 23-year-old Samuelsson, the son of former NHL defenseman Ulf Samuelsson and older brother of Coyotes center Henrik Samuelsson, appeared in four games for Arizona last season. The Coyotes acquired the defenseman from Pittsburgh in December for Rob Klinkhammer and a conditional draft pick.

Philip Samuelsson played 73 games last season in the American Hockey League, finishing with four assists in 22 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and adding five goals and 15 assists in 51 games for Portland.

The 24-year-old Shinnimin had an assist in 12 games for the Coyotes last season. He had 22 goals and 25 assists in 64 games for Portland.
