Arizona Coyotes forward Zac Rinaldo has waived his right to an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a punch to unsuspecting opponent, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard, during a game at Gila River Arena on Saturday.
A telephone hearing will be conducted Wednesday.
At 8:52 of the second period, Rinaldo punched Girard and was assessed a match penalty. He also was penalized at the same time for a fight with Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson.
The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: punch to an unsuspecting opponent. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
The Avalanche won the game 6-2.
