{coyotes} Kuemper signs two-year contract extension with Coyotes

Darcy Kuemper signed a two-year contract extension with the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday. Financial terms were not released.

"I'm thrilled to re-sign with the Coyotes," Kuemper said. "We have a great team and first-class organization and I love living and playing in the Valley. I'm excited to grow and build with our group. This is a great day for me and my family."

The goalie was 27-20-8 with five shutouts in 55 games in 2018-19, his first full season with the Coyotes. He had NHL career highs in wins, starts and shutouts with a 2.33 goals-against average and NHL career-best .925 save percentage. Arizona acquired him in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings for center Tobias Rieder and goalie Scott Wedgewood on Feb. 21, 2018.

"We are extremely pleased to sign Darcy to a two-year extension," Coyotes general manager John Chayka said. "Darcy had an incredible season last year and established himself as one of the NHL's best goaltenders. With Darcy and Antti [Raanta], we are confident that we have one of the best goaltending tandems in the League."

Selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (No. 161) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Kuemper is 80-61-27 with a 2.50 GAA, .916 save percentage and 16 shutouts in 186 games (169 starts) through seven seasons with the Wild, Kings and Coyotes.
