[cactuswings 4421] Re: LOG - Phoenix Area (March 2022)

Tobias,

You are correct with VP-BKV, but it is a B773 as well .EI-FNI is the Alitalia B772.
Seen when I visited in 15th Feb 22.

There were a few of interest on arrival - then it was on to the rental car center which is not quite yet connected by the Sky Train (soon!).

Air Canada       321  CGIUE
Air Canada       321  CGJWI
Allegiant        320  N249NV  not at AZA?!
Ameriflight      EM2  N246AS  silver ex-ASA colors

Hawaiian         332  N395HA  sick, pushed off stand
Mesa             734  N708DA  at Mesa hangar
United           7M8  N17262
                 319  DABCN   at Cutter Aviation

…plus 3x American Eagle CRJ700s on west ramps (with more close to Mesa's hangar), many more props & jets at the freight ramp including an A400, a JSX E1X5 at their terminal, and three aircraft at Honeywell (a 757, Emb 170, & Gulfstream).

AZA/IWA (3/28/2022)

The long drive out to Mesa Gateway was not well rewarded but what was notable was how the land around the airport, especially arable land, was being turned into…warehouses.  The usual places of interest (Embraer's hangar, the fire ramp, the midfield area, and the Intel terminal) were devoid of anything.  My full log follows.

Allegiant     320  N225NV  taped up & engineless
Allegiant     320          #280
Allegiant     320  N288NV

…plus 2x CL415s.  Also seen on approach from my nearby hotel were two more Allegiant A320 family aircraft, a Swoop 737, and a ??? 737 Classic.  Relatively wild weather (rain, wind, thunder) meant that at least one of the Allegiants did a missed approach.

This was my first visit here in about two years and the biggest change was…more development!  There was a new warehouse at the main entrance (whose parking lot greatly facilitated views of the scrapping compound), some residential/retail, and, at the NW corner of the field, massive land clearing for (hopefully not for spotters!) more warehouses?  Maybe it was because spring training, with Guardians & Reds facilities more or less at the airport, was in full swing but there were a LOT of police and no patience for my attempts to wipe up A319s (mainly) on the SE side of the airport…I didn't push my luck. In general Goodyear made up for everything the Williams Gateway wasn't, it was good to be back! I should add that there were a surprising number of duplicates to my March 2020 (pre-Covid) visit.
