Former NHL player Mike Ribeiro has been charged with two counts of sexual assault for alleged incidents that occurred east of Dallas last year, Sportsnet has confirmed.
Ribeiro is accused of allegedly assaulting two women on June 23, 2021, and was indicted in Franklin County, Texas, on April 13. The sheriff's office confirmed to Sportsnet that Ribeiro turned himself in on April 28, when the 42-year-old was arrested and released on a $200,000 bond.
The Dallas Morning News was the first outlet to report on the news.
Ribeiro played six seasons with the Dallas Stars, and owns property in Mount Vernon, Texas, roughly 100 miles outside of the city, according to the Morning News.
These latest charges are not the first time Ribeiro has been accused of sexual assault.
In 2015, Ribeiro's nanny sued both Ribeiro for assaulting her and Ribeiro's wife for threatening her in August 2012, when the then-18-year-old woman helped the family settle into their new home in McLean, Va., after working as their babysitter for six years while he played for the Stars. The lawsuit alleged Ribeiro assaulted her while she was sleeping in the home's basement with two of his children. The nanny cited other instances where Ribeiro made her feel "extremely uncomfortable."
That lawsuit was settled on July 15, 2015. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Ribeiro played 1,074 NHL games over 17 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Stars, Washington Capitals, Phoenix Coyotes and Nashville Predators.
