The Arizona Coyotes have loaned rookie right winger Dylan Guenther to Team Canada for the World Junior Hockey Championship, Hockey Canada announced on Thursday.
The move comes one day before selection camp starts for Canada in Moncton, N.B.
The tournament starts on Boxing Day in Halifax and Moncton.
The announcement comes on the same day Shane Wright, the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, was loaned by the Seattle Kraken to Team Canada.
Guenther, 19, has three goals and eight assists for 11 points and eight PIMs in 21 games with the Coyotes this season. Guenther is sixth on the Coyotes in scoring and his three power-play goals have him tied for most goals among all rookies.
The 6-foot-2, 181-pound native of Edmonton played in two games and collected two assists for Team Canada in the 2022 World Junior Championship before the tournament was postponed because of multiple COVID-19 outbreaks. He did not play in the rescheduled tournament that was held in August in his hometown.
Guenther was a first-round pick (ninth overall) by the Coyotes in the 2021 NHL draft.
