GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes were without their captains Tuesday night at Jobing.com Arena.
Coyotes captain Shane Doan was unable to make the pregame skate after suffering a lower-body injury in Saturday's victory against Detroit. Kyle Chipchura replaced Doan on Antoine Vermette's line for Phoenix, with Brandon Yip taking his place in the lineup and making his Coyotes debut.
Calgary was without captain Mark Giordano, who has nine points in his first eight games this season. The veteran defenseman came out for warmups but skated off quickly and was replaced by Christopher Breen, who made his NHL debut. Giordano was hit hard by Los Angeles Kings Matt Greene and Colin Fraser during the Flames' 3-2 win in L.A. on Monday.
Forward David Jones also returned to the Flames' lineup after missing four games with a shoulder injury. Tim Jackman and Brian McGrattan were scratched for Calgary.
