Season series: This is the third of five games between the Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes. They've split the first two games, with Calgary winning the most-recent game by a 4-1 score on Dec. 4 at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Big story: One team put an end to a losing streak Monday, the other will be aiming to avoid a three-game skid Tuesday. Calgary finally found some offense and beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 at Pepsi Center on Monday after Mike Cammalleri broke a 3-3 tie with 3:30 left in regulation.

After playing six straight games that went past regulation, the Coyotes have failed to secure a point in the standings in their past two. They were shut out by the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0 last Thursday, then suffered a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers two nights later. Tuesday marks the fourth of a six-game homestand for Phoenix.

Team Scope:

Flames: The power play struggled in recent games for Calgary, but Cammalleri made the Avalanche pay for a too-many-men penalty late in the third period and ended what had been an 0-for-11 drought with the man advantage.

"We had talked about our power plays as something that needed to be better," Cammalleri said. "To have a chance to win this game, I thought it started with our competitive level on the power play. We won a series of battles on the power play, down low digging out pucks. On the last one, the puck's going to [Jiri] Hudler and we all know how talented Hudler is at finding the open guy, so I just tried to go to an open space and he made a great play.

"It feels very good. It's been a tough little stretch for sure. When things like that happen, it's easy to get negative. The best way to build trust is to get results, so it was nice to get some results tonight."

Coyotes: Phoenix received some good news Monday, when it learned that forward Martin Hanzal and defenseman Zbynek Michalek will represent Czech Republic at the 2014 Sochi Olympics next month.

Hanzal has 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 38 games this season; Michalek, who also played at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, hasn't played since Dec. 17 due to a lower-body injury.

"It's great," Hanzal told the Coyotes website. "It's a huge honor for me. … I'm really excited to be (going) there and I can't wait."

Who's hot: Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker has two goals and an assist in the past three games. Defenseman Keith Yandle has points in four of his past five; he has two goals and four assists over that span.

Injury report: Flames forwards Blair Jones (meniscus tear), Curtis Glencross (lower-body injury) and Kris Russell (MCL sprain) are all on injured reserve. … Phoenix defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (upper body) skated Monday, but will not play against Calgary. Michalek is also out.
