[cactuswings 2828] Re: 2 new messages in 1 topic - digest - Casa Grande

I thought I'd pick up a seriously old thread and post a reply. Can confirm a whole bunch of helis are indeed stored in Casa Grande. All look like S-55s, some with and some without booms. They can be found in a secure compound at N32.89,W111.788826. When there in Feb 2013 I could count 74 frames, some of which are confirmed by reg ex Gila. To find, walk the short dirt track west from beside #1505 N VIP Blvd. Regards, Mark

Hi Rick (and others in the group),

Thank you for the excellent and detailed log that I printed off while in the
States last week and handily just prior to my flight over Marana on Sat 29
Mar with Sonoran Wings. I still have to download and process the many photos
from my camera (got into LHR from LAX yesterday afternoon) but things looked
much the same as you indicated, although I think I only saw 2 MaxJets on my
circuits and landing/taxi; maybe I missed the 3rd and it's lurking on a
photo!  What was new (and I suspect of interest to others) on the extreme
south east end of the ramp was a Royal Brunei Airlines Boeing 777 in full
colours but still wearing N207UA.  As we took off one of the Evergreen 747s
was being moved along the ramp - can't tell you which one yet, but I snapped
it. The flight over Davis Monthan was also memorable - no problems on a
Saturday morning and it topped off the bus tour from Pima A&S Museum the
previous afternoon.

Hi Rick,

Nice log, Garry Dunne from Boston and myself based in Amsterdam had a
week in Arizona a few days before you did. Interesting that the Bae
146s are moving around. We flew low over Marana on the 3rd. using a
Tucson company I know thru Flight School. Two very low passes even DM
people lets us fly exactly the course we wanted for a weekday that was
great.

Did you visit ant other places apart from Tucson and Marana. Collidge
is still worth a visit, several Hercs, very friendly people. Lots of
new hangars being built. Chandler has just a handfull of propliners
the helis have moved to a place near Casa Grande (off airport
somewhere!!!) I think Chandlers days are numbered.

Eloy has several Skyvan, Twin Otters etc during our visit it was very
windy on the 2nd they diverted to Marana we saw them the next day.

N9331 at Tucson was del in on the 3rd March just after we had landed.
The B737 from Avolar was also here last March lots of speculation to
the ID on this aircraft. There was only ONE Avolar B737 here.

Regards. Ian

Hey Rick...

I believe N708BA, the ex-Korean 747SP, may have actually found a new
owner... So it may be getting prepped for ferry to a new home...
