PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Coyotes signed one of the top college free agents on the market, inking St. Lawrence University forward Greg Carey to a one-year entry-level contract.
The 23-year-old from Hamilton leads the NCAA with 39 assists in 38 games and is second in points with 57.
As a junior last season, he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top NCAA men's hockey player when he had 51 points in 38 games.
Carey will report to the Coyotes' AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. His one-year contract technically is effective the start of next season.
Matt Carey, Greg's brother and a junior at St. Lawrence, was also reportedly being courted by the Coyotes. Matt Carey is the Saints' second-leading scorer.
