{coyotes} Sharks acquire rights to Letunov from Coyotes

The San Jose Sharks acquired the rights to unsigned forward Maxim Letunov and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft from the Arizona Coyotes for a fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft (No. 120) and a third-round pick in the 2017 draft on Monday.

Letunov, 20, had 16 goals and 40 points in 36 games at the University of Connecticut this season. He was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie team. He was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (No. 52) of the 2014 draft and was traded to the Coyotes on March 2, 2015 for defenseman Zbynek Michalek and a conditional 2015 draft pick.

The trade gives the Coyotes eight picks in the 2016 draft, including six in the first four rounds. They had been lacking a fourth-round pick; they had traded theirs along with defenseman Keith Yandle to the New York Rangers on March 1, 2015.

The Sharks now have five picks in the draft. They still have the Rangers' fourth-round pick (No. 111), which was acquired in a trade for James Sheppard on March 1, 2015.
