NHL goalies will get to wait another year until they are required to downsize their chest protectors, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
The proposal to reduce the size of certain pieces of goaltender equipment — specifically their chest protectors and pants — was discussed at last year's general managers meetings, and by Feb. 4 all goalies were required to wear new, streamlined pants.
Smaller chest protecters were projected to be updated for the coming season, but Lavoie reports that, with 16 days until the start of the 2017/18 season, the new equipment is not yet ready.
The new equipment could potentially be enforced for the 2018-19 season.
