The New Jersey Devils have tendered an offer sheet to Utah Mammoth centre Barrett Hayton, it was announced Wednesday evening.

The contract is for one year and for $4.775 million, which would require a second-round pick as compensation. The Mammoth have seven days to match.

Hayton, 26, is now scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 campaign.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston, if the Mammoth decide to match Hayton’s offer sheet, they will not be allowed to trade him until next summer, which would take him right to free agency.

The Peterborough, Ont., native was selected No. 5 overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2018. He’s spent his entire seven-year career with the franchise, tallying 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 67 games for the Mammoth last season.

Hayton has 65 goals and 90 assists for 155 points in 358 career regular season NHL games.
