Dustin Brown's overtime hit on Michal Rozsival had the Phoenix Coyotes jawing at him in the handshake line and calling for his head afterward.
But there's no hearing scheduled for the Los Angeles Kings captain.
Brown, known for his physical play, hit Rozsival as he cut across the blue line. Though there was leg contact, Brown's shoulder also hit Rozsival's shoulder.
"Rozsival was cutting to the middle and I cut across and made contact," Brown told reporters after the game. "Obviously, they thought it was a kneeing. It happened at high speed. I felt like I got him with my shoulder and my left side and his right side all made contact from toe to shoulder."
Rozsival had to be helped off the ice. Making matters worse for the Coyotes is Dustin Penner scored after the ensuing faceoff, ending Phoenix's season.
The Coyotes were also upset that the hit occurred after the whistle was blown for an offsides call.
"If Raffi Torres gets 25 games for his hit during the play, then this guy (Brown) ought to be done forever," goalie Mike Smith said after the game.
Looking at NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan history, he has handed down only one suspension (plus one fine) this season for a kneeing infraction. Kevin Porter got four games for a knee-on-knee hit on the Vancouver Canucks' David Booth, who missed 18 games.
In that case, Porter's knee was extended well before he checked Booth and there was no other body contact.
