I think setting up a lot of ham stations in downtown Mesa is a good idea. I also think we should do it during a block party for maximum exposure.
But Field day is Field day and we should be out in the wild. So I suggest we look at Tonto National Park Granite Reef area. There is a park area with a lot of trees next to the lake that feeds the canal system. See Tonto national forest- granite reef. This is a day use only area with a 6.00 dollar daily fee. We would need to get there very early to get a place to set up and we couldn't work the radios for 24 hours but it is very easy area to locate on North Power road. We could set up a tubers shuttle for family members who want to tube down the Salt River and any one wanting to take their hand held radios with them could set up some talk time during their float. I have done this float many time during my youth and the water is cold but its a lot of fun. We could set up some signs along the road inviting the public to stop by and as this is a well traveled road during the summer we might get a good crowd.
