Season series: The Arizona Coyotes have won three games against the Calgary Flames. Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, whose five points lead Arizona, has three goals, including the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory at Gila River Arena on Nov. 27. Defenseman Mark Giordano has three points (one goal) to lead Calgary. The Coyotes and Flames play their fifth and final game March 28 in Arizona.
Coyotes team scope: Ekman-Larsson remains day-to-day with a bruised shoulder, general manager Don Maloney told The Arizona Republic on Thursday. Ekman-Larsson, who leads Arizona with 49 points and is second with 19 goals, sat out a 3-2 overtime loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday after he was injured Monday in a 3-1 loss at the Colorado Avalanche. He had played 188 consecutive regular-season games. The Coyotes have lost 10 road games in a row (0-9-1). Forward Alex Tanguay has two goals and three assists in three games since being acquired in a trade with the Avalanche on Feb. 29. "He makes good plays," coach Dave Tippett told the Coyotes website. "There's plays that are there that some players make and some don't, and he has a knack of making good plays. … He's contributed since he's got here. That's good to see."
Flames team scope: Forward Sam Bennett (upper body) and defensemen TJ Brodie (upper body) and Deryk Engelland (lower body) are day-to-day. "We don't have any more (information)," coach Bob Hartley told the Flames website Thursday. "The medical staff told us they're all day-to-day, but there's going to be more testing today. Hopefully, we're going to have some results tonight or tomorrow." Brodie and Bennett were injured Wednesday in a 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators, a game Engelland sat out. Brodie and Engelland did not practice Thursday. Goalie Joni Ortio will make his fourth straight start. After making 24 saves on 26 shots against Nashville, Ortio is 2-6-3 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.
