7 p.m. ET; MSG+, FS-A, NHL.TV

Coyotes team scope

With starter Mike Smith injured, the Arizona Coyotes will go back to Louis Domingue in goal against the Islanders after he was pulled in the second period of a 5-2 loss at the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. Domingue allowed four goals on 19 shots before being replaced by Justin Peters, who made 23 saves. Arizona has been outscored 12-6 in losing the first two of a six-game road trip. "We'll put Louis back in there [Friday] night and see if we can get a better start from him," coach Dave Tippett told The Arizona Republic. Smith sustained a lower-body injury Tuesday in a 7-4 loss at the Ottawa Senators and was sent back to Arizona on Thursday for further evaluation.

Islanders team scope

Defenseman Ryan Pulock, the New York Islanders' first-round pick (No. 15) at the 2013 NHL Draft, was recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis Thursday and will make his season debut. He will replace Nick Leddy, who is day-to-day because of an upper-body injury. "Obviously, this is where I want to be," said Pulock, who had a goal and two assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff games last season. "It's exciting to get my first game of the year in here. I look forward to getting out there and helping the team." This will be the first NHL game featuring a matchup between the Strome brothers. Ryan was the No. 5 pick in the 2011 draft by the Islanders; Dylan, a rookie, was chosen No. 3 by the Coyotes in 2015.

Status report

The Coyotes did not have a morning skate after playing in Montreal on Thursday. … Halak will make his third straight start and fourth in five games. Islanders coach Jack Capuano said he hopes to have an update on Leddy's condition after the game, but is unsure of his availability for the weekend. New York hosts the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. … Barzal, a first-round pick (No. 16) at the 2015 draft, will be scratched again. His lone appearance was a 2-1 loss at the Washington Capitals last Saturday, when he took three penalties. "[Barzal] can't play the wing," Capuano said. "[Strome] will go back in the middle tonight and just get him going. Between Brock and [Tavares] and Casey and [Strome] and even [Quine], we've played well. It's tough for us to change the lineup after the games that we've played. I would like to have that discussion but I would like to get him in, I've just got to figure out when."

Who's hot

Chychrun, a first-round pick (No. 16) at this year's draft, scored his first NHL goal Thursday and has points in back-to-back games. Richardson has a goal and two assists in three games. … Nelson has a four-game point streak (two goals, two assists), and Bailey has three points
