With the NHL's current Collective Bargaining Agreement set to expire at Midnight et/9pm pt on Saturday, unrestricted free agent Shane Doan is expected to announce where he will sign on Friday.
Reports indicate Doan has narrowed his choices down to staying with the Phoenix Coyotes or moving to the Vancouver Canucks.
Last week, Doan told a Phoenix radio station that his first choice is to stay with the Coyotes as long as the sale of the team to prospective owner Greg Jamison was finalized.
"My goal has been to stay here the whole time," Doan told radio station XTRA 910 in Phoenix. "We have a deal worked out that we just want to make sure that the team gets signed and that everything gets done and it gets done before the 15th."
However, Jamison's deal appears to have hit a snag as the city of Glendale looks to rework the lease agreement that both sides had agreed upon.
Last season, Doan scored 22 goals and added 28 assists for 50 points in 79 games. He also helped the Coyotes win their first playoff series win in franchise history, advancing to the Western Conference Final before bowing out the Los Angeles Kings.
In 1,198 career NHL games, Doan has scored 318 goals and added 470 assists for 788 points.
