{coyotes} PLAYERS TO DECIDE BY SATURDAY ON PROPOSED PLAYER-OWNER MEETING

Holiday Gifts at Chocolate.com Holiday Gifts at Chocolate.com Holiday Gifts at Chocolate.com Holiday Gifts at Chocolate.com Holiday Gifts at Chocolate.com

The NHLPA held a conference call late Friday afternoon to discuss this past week's mediation process and the plan moving forward.

The big topic of discussion for the players was Gary Bettman's offer of an owner-player only meeting.

Bettman proposed Thursday that the leadership from both sides step aside for the next bargaining session, leaving a group of owners and players to try and break the stalemate

The players are expected to make a decision and let the NHL know one way or another no later than Saturday.

{coyotes} AS NHL LOCKOUT DRAGS ON, STARS DESCEND ON DESERT FOR CAMP

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith lowered into a crouch as the odd-man rush developed in front of him.

The puck went to the left wing and he followed, lodging his skate against the post. A one-touch pass sent the puck across the front of Smith's crease and he slid over in a flash, whipping his right leg out for a sprawling pad save, setting off a collective 'Oh!' from fans lining the glass behind him.

NHL players on the ice, competing hard, fans cheering them on -- it almost felt like a real game.

Of course, it was only a scrimmage in front of a couple hundred people at the Coyotes' practice facility, but as the NHL lockout drags on, fans -- and the players -- will take anything they can get.

"This is awesome," said Jane Pittet of Scottsdale, who left work to catch Thursday's workout at the Ice Den. "I wish it were the real thing, but this is fun to watch."

The Phoenix Coyotes have been holding informal workouts at their practice rink since the NHL lockout started and this week were joined by more than a dozen players from around the league for what amounts to a lockout minicamp.

Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby, San Jose forward Patrick Marleau, Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller and Dallas forward Brendan Morrow are among the players who have made the desert the hockey destination this week by skating with the Coyotes.

Players from teams across the country have gotten together for workouts in their home cities, but this week is a chance to face a step up in competition and play against someone other than their teammates, not to mention feel at least a little pressure playing with people watching.

"It was fun to be out there and, OK, I've actually go to stop this puck," Miller said. "I kind of tried to pretend I was back in front of the home crowd and had to make a stop, so it was good."

The Coyotes have had good turnout for their player-organized workouts, skating with a dozen or so players who haven't gone to play overseas or for minor league teams, while a handful of players from other teams have occasionally joined in.

Crosby, trying to work his way back from a series of concussions, helped organize a couple of gatherings in Dallas and Vail, Colo., and the group headed to Arizona this week to join the Coyotes.

Phoenix captain Shane Doan sent word that there would be a mini camp of sorts this week, luring more players to Scottsdale.

About 30 players have participated in the workouts this week, separating onto two rinks for drills before coming together for 40 minutes to an hour of scrimmaging. There isn't any hard checking or an overwhelming intensity to the workouts, but it is a chance for the players to get out and play at close to game speed.

"We've had a pretty good group here the whole time and we added about 15 guys, so that made it to where you can play a full game," Doan said. "That makes it so it's 5-on-5 and there's a little bit of a break, not every other shift. Gives you a chance to really play. It just picks up the competitiveness and everyone wants to prove that they're capable of playing and it's a lot of fun."

For now, camps like this and informal workouts with teammates are all the players have.

The NHL lockout reached 75 days on Thursday and had already led to the cancellation of more than 400 games, including the New Year's Day Winter Classic and All-Star weekend.

Federal mediators joined the talks between the NHL and players this week, but the sides appear to still be far apart.

"I thought I knew what to expect, but here we are, it's almost December and we're talking in Phoenix," said Miller, who lives in Los Angeles and has been working out with Kings and Ducks players.

"It's very frustrating that we can't have a true partnership in the sense that the game was doing well. If it needed a tweak or two, we were more than willing to listen, but it seems everyone's on guard and no one trusts the other party. It's been going like that for years. It's tough."

Camps like the one this week will help them vent some of the frustration, but it's just not the same as playing in games that matter.

{coyotes} NHL, NHLPA MAKE NO PROGRESS AFTER TALKS WITH MEDIATORS

24850_Pick the Perfect Present for Everyone on Your List + Spend $50 Get Free Shipping on Select Items 18022_Kohl's Holiday 2012 Banners - Dream a Little Dream...

The National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association made no progress on a new collective bargaining agreement after two straight days of meetings with U.S. federal mediators. And no further meetings with mediators have been planned.

"Today, we concluded two days of mediation with FMCS mediators and representatives of the NHL Players' Association," said NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly in a statement.  "After spending several hours with both sides over two days, the presiding mediators concluded that the parties remained far apart, and that no progress toward a resolution could be made through further mediation at this point in time.  We are disappointed that the mediation process was not successful."

Sources confirm that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is awaiting response from NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr on a proposal that owners and players have a bargaining session without any NHL or NHLPA leaders or staff in the room.

Fehr did release a statement in the evening that addressed the mediated meeting on Thursday.

"Today, players and NHLPA staff, along with representatives of the league, concluded a second day of mediation under the auspices of the FMCS," said Fehr in the statement. "(On Thursday) afternoon, the mediators informed the parties that they did not think it was productive to continue the discussions further (on Thursday). The mediators indicated that they would stay in contact with the league and the NHLPA, and would call the parties back together when they thought the time was right."

"We want to find a way to get to a deal," Daly said regarding the commissioner's proposal. "Nothing else has worked. The Commissioner felt that we might as well propose something different. We will see how they respond."

Both sides met with mediators Scot L. Beckenbaugh and John Sweeney.

Mediation by a third party was also sought out twice during the 2004-05 lockout; once as a last-ditch effort to save the season in February of 2005, and once more during the following summer, with no positive outcome. The hope is an objective party will help get the negotiating process on track.

The current work stoppage, which began on Sept. 16, has already caused the cancellation of 422 regular-season games as well as the Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend.

{coyotes} NHL AND NHLPA CONTINUE TALKS WITH FEDERAL MEDIATORS

The National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association are meeting with federal mediators for the second straight day in an attempt to spur negotiations towards a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Both sides met with separately with mediators Scot L. Beckenbaugh and John Sweeney on Wednesday afternoon at an undisclosed location.

"A small group of NHLPA staff and players met today with two experienced FMCS (Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service) mediators. We expect that these discussions will resume on Thursday," said players' union executive director Don Fehr after those meetings commenced.

The league also confirmed that meetings would continue.

Mediation by a third party was also sought out twice during the 2004-05 lockout; once as a last-ditch effort to save the season in February of 2005, and once more during the following summer, with no positive outcome. The hope is an objective party will help get the negotiating process on track.

which is reflective of the email Larry sent out on the Superstition

Maybe the Scottsdale Hamfest and Superstition Hamfest can work together to work out something? Any way I just wanted to let the WM7RC Club know why the hamfest can't go on this weekend of Dec. 1st.

{coyotes} NHL, players meet with mediators, plan to talk again

18022_Kohl's Holiday 2012 Banners - Dream a Little Dream...

NHL owners and players met with federal mediators Wednesday with the hope of finding a path to end the 74-day-old lockout that has delayed the start of the 2012-13 season.

After a lengthy session, they expect to meet again on Thursday.

Scot L. Beckenbaugh and John Sweeney of the U.S. Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service were attempting to help the two parties bridge the gap in their stalemated negotiations.

The FMCS asked for a news blackout on the proceedings, the location of which was kept quiet. The NHL had no statement and NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr issued a statement that said,"A small group of NHLPA staff and players met today with two experienced FMCS mediators. We expect that these discussions will resume on Thursday."

Heading into Wednesday, the two sides had not agreed on how to divide hockey-related revenue. Players have agreed to a 50-50 split but are asking for $393 million to compensate for previously signed individual contracts. Owners have offered $211 million, and that number could be reduced soon because of revenue that is being lost daily.

Commissioner Gary Bettman has estimated that owners are losing $18 million to $20 million per day, and players are losing $8 million to $10 million per day.

They also were far apart on the issue of individual contracting rights. Owners are trying to alter arbitration rules and make a one-year change on unrestricted free agency qualification. Also, owners want a five-year cap on individual contracts, plus a 5% year-to-year variation restriction on multiyear deals.

The two sides had not had formal negotiations since Nov. 20 in New York. The league has already canceled all games through Dec. 14, plus the Winter Classic and All-Star weekend The expectation is that it would take about 10 days to start the season from the time an agreement is reached. At this point, the two sides would be looking at a season of around 60 to 62 games if an agreement could be reached relatively soon.

The NHL board of governors meeting is scheduled for Dec. 5 in New York.

Hi Vincent,
The Superstitution Hamfest has been posponed as ADOT will have Dobson Road closed plus some other glitches
this up coming weekend so they will try to have another hamfest after the first of the year and all ticket sales for the prizes will roll over to the new date set. Maybe the Scottsdale Hamfest and Superstition Hamfest can work together to work out something? Any way I just wanted to let the WM7RC Club know why the hamfest can't go on this weekend of Dec. 1st.
Regards to all, Terry Cross nk7t.

First:

When the Mesa ARC was started in 2010, my first action was to obtain a
trade name certificate (DBA) for the Mesa Amateur Radio Club assigned to
myself as the owner to protect the name of the club. In 2011, the board
amended the bylaws to change the club to a "member association";
however, the DBA of "Mesa Amateur Radio Club" was never transferred to
the Mesa Amateur Radio Club Assoc as intended. This paperwork was filed
today with a cost of 10$. Although not yet processed, the club now is
the legal owner of the name Mesa Amateur Radio Club.

Second:

Since the Club legally belong to an individual, namely myself, I did
want to open a treasury account under my personal Social Security Number
(SSN) so we never established a treasury. Today, I also filed for a
Employer Identification Number (EIN) for the Mesa Amateur Radio
Association so that we can open a bank account. My understanding is we
are tax exempt if we have less than 5000$ in the back and less than
5000$ of annual revenue. Now that the Mesa ARC assoc has a EIN, we are
legally able to open a bank account for a treasury. Today I am calling
credit unions to get information so the club can decided tomorrow where
they want to bank. The EIN states we are "a non-profit community
volunteer group".

Third:

According to the IRS website, if I understand this correctly, we can
legally function as a non-profit without a 501(c)3 if we work collect or
have less than 5000$ at any time. Since out charter bares having
employees this is not a matter for concern as well. I do believe we
should file to incorporate and a for a 501(c)3 status within the next
year to two.

Tomorrow at the meeting we can discuss establishment of the treasury
account.

See you all tomorrow at 6:30 in the North Conference Room. The city is
going to open the partition between the two smaller conference rooms for
this meeting so everyone can fit.

{coyotes} Jamison a step closer to buying Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Greg Jamison took a big step toward completing his deal to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.

All that's left is one last hurdle.

Glendale's City Council approved a reworked arena lease deal with Jamison late Tuesday night, clearing the way for the former San Jose Sharks CEO to buy the team from the NHL.

The council voted 4-2 in favor of a 20-year, $320 million arena management deal with Jamison, with a stipulation that he must complete his purchase of the team by Jan. 31, 2013.

Jamison said after the council vote that he fully expects to have the deal done in time.

Glendale leaders approved a $324 million deal for Jobing.com Arena in June, but sought to renegotiate in the face of huge financial restraints.

{coyotes} MAPLE LEAFS FIRST NHL TEAM WORTH $1B, ACCORDING TO FORBES

NEW YORK -- The Toronto Maple Leafs are the first NHL team worth US$1 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

The Leafs, who have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967, are worth $250 million more than the next most valuable franchise, the New York Rangers. The Montreal Canadiens are worth $575 million.

The Chicago Blackhawks ($350 million), Boston Bruins ($348 million) and Detroit Red Wings ($346 million) round up the top six, meaning the league's six original franchises are also its most valuable.

The Vancouver Canucks are the next Canadian team on the list, in seventh at $342 million. The Calgary Flames are in 12th at $245 million, the Edmonton Oilers are ranked 14th at $225 million, the Ottawa Senators 16th at $220 million and the Winnipeg Jets 20th at $200 million.

The Jets saw their value jump after their first full season in Winnipeg. Forbes valued the franchise at $164 million last year and at $135 million in 2010, before the team moved north.

Least valuable of the 30 teams are the St. Louis Blues at $130 million and the Phoenix Coyotes at $134 million.

The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings are worth $276 million, 10th overall.

Forbes says the NHL's total revenues were $3.4 billion for the 2011-12 season. Fuelled by that nine per cent increase, the average NHL team is worth $282 million, 18 per cent more than a year ago.

With the players locked out by owners, the NHL already has cancelled 422 regular-season games. Forbes reports that 13 teams lost money last season.

The Leafs, Rangers (last Stanley Cup in 1994) and Canadiens (last title in 1993) account for 83 per cent of the league's income, with Toronto the most profitable franchise at $81.9 million, followed by the Rangers at $74 million and Montreal at $51.6 million.

Opening treasury bank account

To open the club's bank account we need 100$ for a minimal balance to
open the account. I have offered to kick in 20$ and so has Orion so we
need to raise at least 60$ to open the bank account.

{coyotes} NHL AND NHLPA RESUME CBA TALKS, THIS TIME WITH MEDIATION

47296_Free Shipping on the New iPads at Sam's Club 47296_Free Shipping on the New iPads at Sam's Club

The National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association go back to the bargaining table this afternoon at 1pm et after both sides agreed to the inclusion of federal mediation in ongoing CBA negotiations.

Mediation by a third party was also done during the 2004-05 lockout. The hope is an objective party will help get the negotiating process on track.

The mediation will be non-binding, meaning the sides will not be forced to go along with suggestions or recommendations made by Scot L. Beckenbaugh and John Sweeney.

The NHL and NHLPA haven't met since last week, when the union tabled a proposal that league commissioner Gary Bettman quickly labelled as one that left the sides "far apart."

They've reached some common ground with both proposing a 50-50 split of revenues throughout the agreement, but are divided on the amount of additional payments the league will make to help ease the transition. The NHL has offered $211 million while the NHLPA asked for $393 million.

There are also rules relating to player contracts that still need to be sorted out.

Mediation has been used in virtually every labour dispute involving pro sports leagues in recent years, including Major League Baseball, the NBA, Major League Soccer and the NFL.

The NHL lockout is now in its 11th week and has forced the league to cancel 422 regular-season games, plus the Jan. 1 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium and Jan. 27 all-star game in Columbus.

Bettman has said the league is losing as much as $20 million per day during the lockout.

{coyotes} GLENDALE COUNCIL PASSES LEASE DEAL FOR JAMISON, COYOTES

wine.com

The city council of Glendale, Arizona has approved a reconfigured 20-year, $320 million lease package that could allow former San Jose Sharks executive Greg Jamison to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.

The deal passed by a vote of 4-2 and is conditional on the purchase of the Coyotes being completed by January 31, 2013.

The package will reportedly pay Jamison approximately $15 million annually to help run the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale.

The vote late on Tuesday night came after a lengthy debate among council members, followed by several passionate public comments both for and against the lease deal.

Jamison was among the speakers who presented his case before Glendale mayor Elaine Scruggs and a six-member council. One council seat is vacant, meaning the vote was among five members and the mayor.

"I believe this deal we have with Mr. Jamison is the best one we'll get," said council member Yvonne Knaack, who voted in favour of the deal. "I don't think he would invest his time and money if he didn't think he would succeed."

Mayor Scruggs, who had once supported the team in Phoenix, has been vocal against a deal in recent months and voted against the deal on Tuesday.

Sources told ESPN.com earlier on Tuesday that the financing for a $170 million purchase of the team is in place. The National Hockey League has owned the franchise since former owner Jerry Moyes took the team into bankruptcy in 2009.
