What an amazing airport! Between the iconic Fly DC Jets sign, the C17 production, the Gulfstream facility, and the so-California new terminal (you can have a coffee outdoors in the sunshine behind security!), the airport reeks of aviation history. I only had a minute to look around on arrival and a full log follows.

I was lucky enough to get a full behind-the-scenes look at the amazing airport at Victorville, the former George AFB. There are a number of interesting facilities at the airport including a paint shop, a couple of airplane storage companies, an MRO, a training center, etc. My time was brief but thorough, I asked for a few stops on our way through the birdfarm but within reason. I noted mainly registrations and not liveries or airplane conditions so pardon any inconsistencies. The only area where I didn't get a close-quarters look was the distant ramp with ex-Qantas 747s, Cargo 360 A310s, a Deta DC-10, an ex-KLM MD-11, and a Saudi L-1011 bizjet (amongst others). Oh well. What follows then is my full log, note that many FedEx aircraft had the "FE" painted out of their regs.

It had been a long time since I'd driven around McCarran and I took the opportunity on this visit. I found that the business jet & EG&G/Janet areas were pretty well locked down and getting tail numbers was a more frustrating exercise than I'd expected. There were a few gems but it was hard work! There were a lot of Allegiant aircraft parked up on the cargo ramp and I was able to read off many (not all) of them - one MD-80 was in the midst of an engine replacement. Some of the aircraft at the international terminal can also be read off from parking areas near the cargo ramp. Lastly, there is an observation area along the south runway which is perfect for monitoring movements. A log of the interesting aircraft seen follows.

I took a quick trip over to Henderson not expecting much, especially not a rumored elusive, hangared, and "up to who knows what" DHC-8. I was thrilled on arrival to see half of Maverick Airways' fixed wing fleet of (3) B.1900Ds and (3) Caravans on the ramp. The aircraft were beautifully polished, these guys clearly care about the appearance of their aircraft. No DHC-8 was seen.
