Phoenix Coyotes enforcer Paul Bissonnette is facing a possible 10-game suspension following Sunday's 4-2 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Bissonnette received a game misconduct - which calls for an automatic 10-game suspension - in the first period after leaving the bench to fight Kings forward Jordan Nolan in reaction to his hit on Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla.
Nolan hit Klesla with an open-ice hit and the 31-year-old Klesla hit the ice face down and lay motionless. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and following the game, Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett said he was alert but taken to hospital.
"It seemed to me like a guy got hit in the head, and a player left his feet," Tippett said. "But that's not for me to diagnose. The league does a good job of those and when they feel like there's a violation committed, they take action."
The NHL is currently collecting video to determine the right call.
