No team has been better than the Boston Bruins since the NHL returned from the Olympics. They blazed through the month of March with a 15-1-1 record and have taken control of the Presidents' Trophy race.
So it should come as no surprise that with just two weeks left before the playoffs begin, the defending Eastern Conference champions are the new odds-on favorites to win the Stanley Cup.
In the latest odds from Bodog, the Bruins saw a hefty jump from just four weeks ago, going from 13-2 odds to a 9-2, slightly above the West-leading St. Louis Blues.
Here are the odds from now and back on March 6. You'll notice that quite a few teams are off the books now.
Stanley Cup Odds | ||
Team | Current odds | Odds on 3/6 |
Bruins | 9-2 | 13-2 |
Blues | 5-1 | 5-1 |
Blackhawks | 13-2 | 13-2 |
Penguins | 7-1 | 13-2 |
Sharks | 8-1 | 10-1 |
Ducks | 10-1 | 15-2 |
Kings | 12-1 | 12-1 |
Flyers | 14-1 | 33-1 |
Avalanche | 20-1 | 20-1 |
Canadiens | 22-1 | 25-1 |
Rangers | 22-1 | 20-1 |
Lightning | 25-1 | 28-1 |
Red Wings | 33-1 | 40-1 |
Blue Jackets | 40-1 | 50-1 |
Wild | 40-1 | 33-1 |
Maple Leafs | 50-1 | 25-1 |
Stars | 66-1 | 50-1 |
Coyotes | 66-1 | 66-1 |
Capitals | 66-1 | 40-1 |
Devils | 150-1 | 66-1 |
A few things probably jump out right away on those odds. First thing to me? The Kings at 12-1 is a potentially amazing value. They have been playing very well since getting Marian Gaborik and we've seen in the last two postseasons, they play their best in the playoffs, Jonathan Quick most certainly included. The Rangers having their odds go down to 22-1 also looks enticing.
On the other side of the equation, 7-1 on the Penguins is not looking too attractive with how average they have looked of late.
Bodog also has odds on teams making the playoffs such as the Red Wings being 1/5 to extend their streak or the Maple Leafs getting 6-1 odds to make it.
