When new hams join up, there are many misconceptions that you need an expensive radio. There are those who go searching on the internet for info on what radio to purchase, or what radio they need. These are all great questions and one that stumps most people. They see or hear about a particular radio from a "friend" or a relative. Or they go to a club meeting and see someone with a particular type of radio and they automatically think that that's the radio for them or they "need" to get that specific radio. I am thinking of doing a short write up on this topic and maybe a presentation, but I would like some feedback from anyone and everyone.
Here is what I would like to know. You can simply respond to this post or send it to me via email.
1. What radio do you currently have and why did you pick it?
2. What other radios were you considering and why didn't you choose them?
3. What radios have you tried?
4. If you have tried other radios what didn't you like about it?
5. If you were to do it all over again, would you choose the same?
6. If money was not an issue (you just won the lottery and besides giving me a few million) what radio would you impulse buy and why?
7. Is there a radio that you would tell others to stay away from and why?
8. What activities do you normally do? And the follow up to that, did these activities help steer you to what radio to purchase?
There are many more questions that are not on this list, so if you have questions that should be answered and it's not listed, please feel free to send them my way.
