Season series: The Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes conclude their season series by playing for the second time in 17 days. Arizona claimed a wild 6-5 win in Washington on Nov. 2 as Sam Gagner and Shane Doan scored 1:28 apart early in the third period to snap a 3-3 tie. Doan finished with two goals and an assist. Teammate Antoine Vermette had a goal and two assists. Alex Ovechkin had a goal and three assists for the Capitals.

Capitals team scope: Injured players Brooks Laich (shoulder), Dmitry Orlov (wrist), Aaron Volpatti (neck) and Liam O'Brien (lower body) all took part in practice on Monday, though O'Brien only skated briefly and appeared to still be in discomfort, according to Capitals senior writer Mike Vogel. Chris Brown skated on a line with Michael Latta and Jay Beagle, and could see action against his former team. Brown was a second-round pick by the Coyotes in the 2009 NHL Draft and played 11 games for them over parts of two seasons. "Everybody wants to play against their old team at some point," coach Barry Trotz said. "If you've been traded or released, those guys always have an extra motivation. They might say they don't really think about it, but they're fibbing to you, they're saying the right thing. They all want to prove their former team wrong."

Coyotes team scope: It's a quick stop back at Gila River Arena for Arizona, which won two of three on a road trip through Western Canada and embarks on another three-game trip starting Thursday in Dallas. Forward Rob Klinkhammer is day-to-day after sustaining an upper-body injury in the first period of a 2-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. Defenseman Brandon Gormley, who scored his first NHL goal against the Oilers, is also a question mark after he was injured late in the game. "If you see his numbers from the American [Hockey] League last year, he is a player that has the capability of making good plays and running a power play," coach Dave Tippett said of Gormley, who had seven goals and 36 points in 54 games last season in Portland. Tippett will have to decide whether Devan Dubnyk gets a third straight start after he stopped 68 of 69 shots against the Vancouver Canucks and Oilers.
