ISLANDERS (8-5-0) at COYOTES (6-6-1)

TV: MSG PLUS, FS-A

Season series: The New York Islanders complete a five-game road trip with their only visit of the season to the Arizona Coyotes. Each team won its home game last season and did so decisively; the Islanders beat the Coyotes 6-1 at Nassau Coliseum but lost 6-3 at Arizona. New York is 2-8-2 against the Coyotes on the road since the franchise moved from Winnipeg in 1996.

Islanders team scope: The Islanders had Friday off, and it was a well-earned break after New York did something it had never done before by sweeping consecutive road games from the two Southern California teams. The Islanders followed a 3-2 overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday with a 2-1 shootout victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. The back-to-back wins give the Islanders a chance to have a winning record on a trip that started with losses to the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who got the win in Anaheim, is expected to start after Chad Johnson made 28 saves through 65 minutes and stopped both shots he faced in the shootout.

Coyotes team scope: Like the Islanders, Arizona has perked up after a slump. The Coyotes overcame an early two-goal deficit on the road Friday and beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in a shootout for their third consecutive victory. Goaltender Mike Smith stopped 37 shots through 65 minutes and two more in the tiebreaker, and forwards Sam Gagner and Mikkel Boedker scored to help the Coyotes beat the Ducks, something they couldn't do in five games last season. It was arguably the best performance of the season by Smith, who's struggled at times in the first month of the season. "He gave us big saves when we needed big saves," coach Dave Tippett said. This is the Coyotes' fifth game in eight days, and backup Devan Dubnyk, who's 2-0-1 in his three decisions, could get the start to give Smith a night off.
