Season series: The Arizona Coyotes and Winnipeg Jets have split two games, each played at Gila River Arena. The Coyotes won 4-1 on Jan. 8, and the Jets won 6-2 on Oct. 9, opening night for each team. Coyotes left wing Mikkel Boedker has three goals and an assist, and captain Shane Doan has a goal and three assists. Jets forward Blake Wheeler has two goals and an assist, and defensemen Toby Enstrom and Zach Bogosian each has two assists.
Coyotes team scope: Arizona began an eight-game road trip, its longest ever, with a 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, its fourth consecutive loss. Goaltender Mike Smith made 30 saves. Center Antoine Vermette scored the Coyotes' first power-play goal in four games. He leads the Coyotes with 29 points (10 goals). The trip follows a 2-4-0 homestand. The Coyotes, who have lost five of their past six road games, will not play at home until Feb. 5. Doan participated in the morning skate Saturday, but missed his second consecutive game because of a lower-body injury. Doan's status for Sunday is unknown. Boedker's career-high four-game goal streak ended in the loss Saturday.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg has won three straight games after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 at United Center on Friday. Left wing Mathieu Perreault left the game and did not return after Chicago forward Daniel Carcillo cross-checked him in the upper left arm late in the second period. Perreault's status is not known, but he is not expected to play. The Jets will provide an update on Perreault after their morning skate. Perreault has 13 goals in his past 21 games, and he has helped establish a dangerous second line with center Mark Scheifele and right wing Michael Frolik. The game is the Jets' seventh in 11 days. Goaltender Michael Hutchinson made 31 saves against Chicago. With coach Paul Maurice using a goaltending rotation lately, it is expected that Ondrej Pavelec will start. Pavelec made 46 saves in a 2-1 win at the Dallas Stars on Thursday in his most recent start. The Jets host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
