Coyotes winger Brad Richardson was at the centre of a scary scene Thursday in Vancouver, when he crumpled to the ice with an apparent leg injury and did not return.
On Friday, we found out Richardson broke his leg on the play and had to have surgery.
Richardson fell awkwardly on his leg on the play and sustained the injury in a freak incident, not because of a bad hit. You can see the play in the video at the top of this page. He had to leave the game on a stretcher and went straight to a Vancouver hospital.
Richardson, 31, has five goals and nine points in 16 games this season, his second with the Coyotes. He had 11 goals and 31 points in 82 games last season.
