The Phoenix Coyotes announced Wednesday that defenseman Chris Summers has accepted his qualifying offer and agreed to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Summers played 21 games for the Coyotes last season, recording three assists. He also played 28 games with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.
Summers, 24, was chosen by the Coyotes in the first round (No. 29) of the 2006 NHL Draft.
