NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League's negotiating committee, headed by Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, met on Thursday with the NHL Players' Association, led by Executive Director Donald Fehr and eight players, for the second day of meetings to work on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Fehr said the session, which lasted approximately two-and-a-half hours, was "business-like."
"We had a constructive meeting," Fehr told reporters. "When you're beginning negotiations, you need to have dialogue. You need to see what you have a common understanding about, what you need to flesh out, what you need to discuss further. We did some of that today. We still have groups meeting now and we're going to reconvene [Friday] morning."
The players who joined Fehr for the meeting include John Tavares, Matt Moulson and Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders, Ruslan Fedotenko of the Philadelphia Flyers, Kevin Westgarth of the Los Angeles Kings, Ron Hainsey of the Winnipeg Jets, Manny Malholtra of the Vancouver Canucks and B.J. Crombeen of the St. Louis Blues.
