Negotiating an extension for goalie Mike Smith remains a priority for the Coyotes, according to The Arizona Republic.
Smith is in the final year of a two-year contract worth $4 million.
"I have had a brief conversation with his agent, and they're certainly willing to talk to us," Maloney said.
But like with many of the team's other objectives, Doan's situation has taken precedent.
"Once we know that and how that is resolved, then certainly Mike is a guy I want to get after maybe into August," Maloney said.
