{coyotes} Jamie McGinn signs three-year contract with Coyotes

Forward Jamie McGinn signed a three-year, $10 million contract with the Arizona Coyotes on Friday.

McGinn, 27, had an NHL-career best 22 goals and 39 points in 84 games with the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres last season and two goals in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. In eight seasons with the Ducks, Sabres, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche, McGinn has 91 goals and 167 points in 450 regular-season games.

McGinn was traded to the Ducks from the Sabres prior to the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline.

Chosen in the second round (No. 36) of the 2006 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks, McGinn has carved a niche as a middle-six power forward who can put the puck in the net. His season took off when he got to Anaheim, where he had eight goals in 21 games. It was McGinn's first 20-goal season since 2011-12.

His production followed an injury-plagued 2014-15, when back problems limited him to 19 games.

McGinn tends to score in bursts; his performance in Anaheim would project to 31 goals in an 82-game season. He's capable of playing well defensively, works hard and can play left or right wing. McGinn provides grit, will go to the front of the net, and has better hands than he's often given credit for.

But his lack of consistency means he has to be on his toes every night, and that's not always the case. His SAT percentage with the Ducks was 48.78, the lowest among any Anaheim forward who played more than 10 games.

McGinn gave the Ducks an offensive boost during the final six weeks of the season, and that didn't hurt his job prospects for 2016-17.
