The Pittsburgh Penguins have been named the odds on favourite to win the 2013 Stanley Cup, according to betting website Bodog.ca.
The Penguins, who won the Cup in 2009, are listed at 8-to-1 favourites, while their divisional rival New York rangers have the second best odds.
The Vancouver Canucks, at 9-to-1, have the best odds of all the Canadian teams. The Edmonton Oilers have odds of 25-to-1; the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs are at 30-to-1; the Ottawa Senators are at 40-to-1 while the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets are 50-to-1 favourites.
Bringing up the rear is the Columbus Blue Jackets with odds of 100-to-1.
The end of the lockout is good news for gambling establishments and fans who enjoying placing wagers on games.
"For the book, the NHL being back is very good news as betting on hockey accounts for one quarter of the bets we take in a year," said Adam Burns, sports book manager at Bodog.ca. "The NBA and college football picked up some of the slack but with hockey we have a very distinct set of bettors who only bet on the NHL who I am sure are just as happy as us that it is finally back."
