{coyotes} 15 popular players heading into NHL trade deadline

Fifteen players who could be dealt before the March 2 NHL trade deadline:

1. Center Antoine Vermette (Arizona Coyotes): With a limited number of proven centers available, 6-1 Vermette might be the most desirable forward. He's a two-way center and a top faceoff man, a perfect fit for a team looking to bolster its forward group for the postseason.

2. Right wing Jaromir Jagr (New Jersey Devils): If you need secondary scoring depth and would like to make a splash, Jagr is a good option. He's a hardworking older player who is fun to have around, and he still can play. The Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders and Montreal Canadiens seem like good fits. Jagr has wanted to play for the Canadiens. But how about the Nashville Predators or the St. Louis Blues?

3. Forward Jiri Tlusty (Carolina Hurricanes): Presuming the 'Canes don't get him re-signed, he could fit into many teams' top-six forward groups. He's a skilled player who has 12 goals in 45 games.

4. Defenseman Marc Methot (Ottawa Senators): The Senators are expected to re-sign him. If it doesn't get done, Methot will be highly coveted. He has played in 411 NHL games. He hits, blocks shots and contributes offensively. Most contenders would love to have him.

5. Center Daniel Winnik (Toronto Maple Leafs): Several teams are looking at Winnik, a valuable role player who can kill penalties, check and occasionally score.

6. Defenseman Andrej Sekera (Hurricanes): The Hurricanes don't seem likely to be able to re-sign him. A contender will want him for his offensive contributions.

7. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek (Coyotes): With almost 700 games of NHL experience, he can step comfortably on to any team that is looking to play tighter defensively.

8. Defenseman Jeff Petry (Edmonton Oilers): He is 27 and will be a unrestricted this summer, but a team acquiring him might try to sign him long term. He has untapped potential. Because he grew up in Michigan and is the son of popular former Detroit Tigers pitcher Dan Petry, he's often mentioned in connection with the Red Wings' hunt for a defenseman.

9. Left wing Martin Erat (Coyotes): His $4.5 million cap hit is an issue, but his offensive flair will make him intriguing for a contender.

10. Right wing Chris Stewart (Buffalo Sabres): He's a 230-pound scoring winger. Teams won't give up a lot to get him, but he's going to move.

11. Defenseman Marek Zidlicky (Devils): He likes the New York area and wants to stay there, but if he's willing to move elsewhere, teams would be interested.

12. Right wing Michael Ryder (Devils): The three-time 30-goal scorer helped Boston win a Stanley Cup in 2011.

13. Defenseman Andrej Meszaros (Sabres): The defensive-minded defenseman has 620 games of NHL experience.

14. Defenseman Kimmo Timonen (Philadelphia Flyers): He's skating again after missing all season with a blood-clot issue. If he can get in a game or two before the deadline and show he isn't rusty, he might entice a contender.

15. Left wing Sean Bergenheim (Florida Panthers): He has been a visible player in previous postseasons. He also has been a healthy scratch at times recently. He could benefit from a change of venue.
