Season series: The New York Islanders earned a 1-0 win at the Arizona Coyotes on Nov. 8. Frans Nielsen scored the only goal of the game at 17:29 of the third period and Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves for his first shutout of the season.

Coyotes team scope: Arizona plays its second game in as many nights after opening a four-game road trip with a 3-0 loss at the New Jersey Devils. Arizona has scored eight goals in its past six games. "You have to capitalize on chances, you have to score goals to win this game and you can't expect your goaltender to be perfect every night," coach Dave Tippett said. "You're not going to win a lot of hockey games [taking that approach]." The Coyotes recalled former Islanders defenseman Dylan Reese on Monday. He has six goals, 19 assists and a plus-11 rating in 51 games for Portland in the American Hockey League this season. He did not dress at New Jersey.

Islanders team scope: New York is already without forwards Kyle Okposo (upper body), Mikhail Grabovski (upper body) and Casey Cizikas (lower body), and there's a chance they won't have Frans Nielsen on Tuesday. Nielsen will be a game-time decision after sustaining an apparent leg injury during a 4-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. If Nielsen is unable to go, the Islanders will either recall a forward from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis, or coach Jack Capuano could dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen against the Coyotes. "Fortunately, I think it looked a little worse than it turned out to be," Capuano said Monday, according to Newsday. "He's a tough kid and he obviously wants to be in there."
