{coyotes} Report: NHL moving closer to testing players for cocaine

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, The NHL could very well expand their current drug testing to include cocaine by the end of this season.

@renlavoietva : All the NHL drug-testing should include cocaine test by the end of the season if everything is going according to plan. Nothing finalize yet

@renlavoietva : If a player test positive to cocaine, they'll be no suspension, but help will be given with the substance abuse program of the NHL and PA.

Cocaine use among NHL players has been brought up several times in the past year.

New York Rangers forward Jarret Stoll, then a member of the Los Angeles Kings was arrested in Las Vegas and charged with cocaine possession last off-season.

He pled guilty to two misdemeanours, and was sentenced to 32 hours of community service.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman spoke on Hockey Central at Noon in October, acknowledging an increased use showing up in tests sampled further for recreational drug use.

According to Lavoie, the system being put in place would suspend a player if they needed to go to Stage 2 of the joint substance program.

@renlavoietva : Only suspension is if a player needs to go to Stage 2 of the joint substance program. But like I said, nothing finalize yet.
