{coyotes} Doan, Coyotes working on one-year contract: report

Forward Shane Doan and his agent have met with the Arizona Coyotes and the sides are working on a one-year contract, general manager John Chayka told KMVP-FM radio.

"We've discussed both a multiyear deal and a one-year deal, but at this time, we're progressing toward a year-to-year approach which is respectful to both sides," Chayka told KMVP on Wednesday. "The idea is after every year, he takes the chance to discuss it with his family. It's all positive, and it's just a matter of time before we get it done."

Doan, who will turn 40 on Oct. 10, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He had 28 goals and 19 assists in 72 games this season.

Doan was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round (No. 7) of the 1995 NHL Draft and has spent his entire 20-season career with the Jets/Coyotes franchise. He has been Coyotes captain since 2003 and holds the franchise record for goals (396).
