Canucks team scope
Goaltender Ryan Miller will start for the Vancouver Canucks after Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves in a 3-2 win at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. Miller is 7-1-2 in his past 10 starts, allowing 17 goals. He is one win from tying Rogie Vachon (355) for 19th place on the NHL all-time list. Miller has dominated the Arizona Coyotes during his career; he's 11-1-0 with a 1.40 goals against average and a .954 save percentage with two shutouts and has allowed one goal in two victories against Arizona this season. Vancouver is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games against the Coyotes and has won five straight, including three this season. The Canucks are one point ahead of the Calgary Flames for the second wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference after the win at Colorado ended their four-game losing streak on the road. They scored first in the game at Colorado for the nine time in 23 road games. They are 4-6-0 in the second game of back-to-backs.
Coyotes team scope
The Coyotes will try to win three games in a row for the first time this season after back-to-back home wins against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers. Christian Fischer had a goal in each game, becoming the first player in franchise history to score goals in his first two NHL games. "Two games and two wins is awesome. But we have a lot to work on," Fischer said. "We've had two days of practice to work on things so we can keep the momentum going." Forwards Jordan Martinook and Shane Doan are dealing with upper-body injuries, but coach Dave Tippett said Martinook is good to go and Doan is probable. There is also good news on Max Domi, who could return to practice after the All-Star break and might be within two weeks of returning from a broken hand sustained on Dec. 8. The Coyotes have won four of their past five home games, and their offense is perking up. After scoring three goals or more in 17 of their first 42 games, Arizona has three or more in four straight games (14 goals total). A big reason is Alexander Burmistrov, who has five assists in five games since the Coyotes claimed him off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. "We've been trying to put a lot of pucks to the net and when the puck starts going in, guys find their rhythm and their confidence," Tippett said. "Our center ice has stabilized. Burmistrov has helped. He's a creative player with good skill, exactly what we expected."
