JETS (20-21-3) at COYOTES (12-22-6)
9 p.m. ET; FS-A, TSN3, NHL.TV
Jets team scope
The Winnipeg Jets are coming off of a 7-4 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, but will go for their fifth win in their past six road games when they begin a road trip with three games in four days. They start against the Arizona Coyotes, who are coming off a five-day break. "They're going to be rested, they're going to have a lot of energy," forward Bryan Little told the Jets website on Thursday. "I expect them to come out of the gates hard, but I expect us to do the same thing. Just because they have a five-day break doesn't mean they should be better than us." Defenseman Ben Chiarot will not play because of an illness. Mark Scheifele, who had two goals against the Canadiens to regain the team lead with 39 points, has at least one point in seven of nine career games against the Coyotes. The Jets placed Patrik Laine (concussion) on injured reserve list and recalled defenseman Julian Melchiori from Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Connor Hellebuyck will make his seventh straight start in goal. He will look to bounce back after allowing three goals on seven shots against Montreal before being replaced by Michael Hutchinson.
Coyotes team scope
Martin Hanzal will return to the lineup after pulling a muscle in his lower body against the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 6 and missing one game. The Coyotes will be without forwards Jordan Martinook (upper Body) and forward Ryan White (lower body) although both have progressed and are back on the ice. The Coyotes had their mandatory five-day break after a 2-1 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Saturday, their first win in 10 games (1-8-1), and play five games in seven days. Alexander Burmistrov, claimed on waivers from the Jets on Jan. 2, joined the team after having visa issues. He skated on Friday and could make his Arizona debut on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks. "We don't want to put him in a bad situation, he hasn't skated or played in a long time now," coach Dave Tippett said. "He had a good skate today, we'll see where he's at tomorrow." Goalie Mike Smith will start.
