The Phoenix Coyotes have traded winger Raffi Torres to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2013 third-round draft pick.
The 31-year-old Toronto-native has appeared in 28 games with the Coyotes this season, scoring five goals and six assists.
Torres is in the final year of a two-year, $3.5 million contract he signed with the Coyotes prior to the 2011-12 season. His deal carries an average annual value of $1.75 million.
Originally selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Torres has scored 132 goals and 116 assists. He has appeared in 619 career games with the Coyotes, Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
He has appeared in 56 career playoff games, scoring eight goals and 16 assists. He has twice reached the Stanley Cup Final: with the Oilers in 2005-06 and the Canucks in 2010-11, losing in Game Seven on both occasions.
