BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Representatives from the NHL's 30 teams will meet here for the next two days to discuss the state of the League in the December meeting of the Board of Governors.
The meeting serves as an opportunity to update the teams on several issues which impact them, including the first projections for the salary cap for the 2015-16 season. Owners are eager to hear the initial projection, which is by no means binding, to help them forecast payroll issues for the upcoming season.
It is expected there will be an update on expansion made by the League. Commissioner Gary Bettman said last month there is nothing imminent in this area, but the League continues to hear from interested parties.
"All I'll do is continue to report on the levels of interest that are being expressed," Bettman said during an appearance in Toronto last month. "There's no effort crying out for immediate expansion. But we are getting expressions of interest."
The status of the World Cup of Hockey is expected to be on the docket at some point. The League and the National Hockey League Players' Association would like to reintroduce the international best-on-best tournament in the fall of 2016.
There are also a number of recurring reports which are made each time the governors gather, including legal and business presentations.
