EDMONTON -- Two shorthanded goals by Tobias Rieder on the same power play paced the Arizona Coyotes to a 5-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Monday.

The goals came 58 seconds apart during a four-goal second period and gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. The two shorthanded goals were the fastest by a rookie.

Former Oilers right wing Esa Tikkanen holds the NHL record for fastest shorthanded goals; he scored twice in 12 seconds on Nov. 12, 1988 in a 6-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Mikkel Boedker and Martin Erat also scored for the Coyotes, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Jordan Eberle and Jeff Petry scored for the Oilers, who have lost 10 in a row (0-7-3). Edmonton is still winless against Western Conference opponents this season (0-12-3).

Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith made 25 saves for his fifth win of the season; Viktor Fasth stopped 19 shots for the Oilers.

Eberle opened the scoring 5:37 into the first period on the power play. The Oilers right wing swept a rebound into the net that Smith left after a bad-angle shot from Taylor Hall.

Coyotes right wing Shane Doan took a roughing penalty with 11 seconds left in the first period, giving the Oilers a power play to start the second. Rieder scored his first shorthanded goal 36 seconds into the period when he jumped on an errant pass at center, raced in alone and beat Fasth between the pads.

On the same power play, Rieder was sent the other way by Martin Hanzal after blocking a shot from the point, worked his way around Oilers defenseman Nikita Nikitin and slipped the puck past Fasth.

Ekman-Larsson increased the Coyotes' lead to 3-1 on a shot from the point that found its way through a maze of bodies in front and past Fasth.

Boedker gave Arizona a 4-1 lead at 19:43 when he got to a loose puck off a scramble in front of the net and lifted a shot over Fasth.

Erat scored at 2:03 of the third period to make it 5-1. The Coyotes right wing fired a rebound past Fasth on the power play.

Petry scored at 4:21 on a shot from the point past a screened Smith to cut the Coyotes' lead to 5-2.

Arizona will visit the Calgary Flames on Tuesday; the Oilers will play at the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
