{coyotes} John Scott says NHL All-Star Game bid is 'up in the air'

John Scott said his participation in the NHL All-Star Game remains "up in the air" in his first comments since he was traded last week.

"I wish I had the answer," Scott told reporters on Sunday. "I haven't heard anything from the league. I don't know what the (NHL's) position is or where everybody stands right now. It's still kind of up on the air."

On Friday, the Arizona Coyotes traded Scott and defenseman Victor Bartley to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Jarred Tinordi. Scott was sent to the Montreal's minor-league affiliate after the transaction.

The NHL said in a statement that it was "evaluating" whether Scott would be eligible to participate in the All-Star Game if he remains in the AHL.

"I never expected to go to Nashville or any other All-Star Game," said Scott, who was a healthy scratch for Newfoundland's St John's IceCaps on Sunday.  "It was exciting, a big surprise. I was kind of happy with it."

Fans mounted an online campaign via ReddIt, Twitter and elsewhere to make the part-time NHLer part of the All-Star game. He finished with the most online votes, making him the captain of the Pacific Division.

USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday that when Scott was first named an All-Star that the NHL suggested to Scott that it would be in everyone's best interests for him to decline the opportunity.
