I've explained couple of days ago where I've heard this from. DL 763 pilot (my coworker).
He's in the office right now, and I've asked him again. He's response was:
"This is just a rumor hoovering in the air. AerSale grabbed them so they must think they have a shot at flipping them to Delta. No other explanation for buying that quantity, way too many to do a start up."

This is the first I have heard of Delta buying the AerSale/ex-Saudi MD90s.  It has only been speculation to this point.  Can you shed light on the source or confirm the validity of this statement?  

 

I can envision Delta acquiring this fleet for active service or spare part inventory.  Hopefully it is the former.
